    CHASING DREAMS by JIMMIE
    You’ve come this far,
Where else would you want to go?
    You’ve reached this far,
What else would you want to do?
    Chase your dreams.
    Follow your heart.
    Keep moving forward.
    Always pray hard.
Life offers a lot of choices
But do not make a choice in haste.
Nothing is served in silver platter
Take your time, pray for it.

    But there’s more in store.

    Move on…conquer… soar high.

  • Artists during the High Renaissance were regarded as “celebrities” thus reflecting a…

Artists during the High Renaissance were regarded as “celebrities” thus reflecting a dramatic change in the social status of the artist. During the medieval period, artists were merely craftsmen who worked according to a commission. With the rise of the Renaissance came an elevation of the artist’s reputation, due in part to the celebrated philosophy of “humanism,” as well as the higher standards placed on an artist’s knowledge and training. The social advancement of artists occurred gradually during the 15th century and gained strength with the artists of the 16th century. Regardless of their social status at birth (whether or not their family was wealthy or poor), they attained a social status that was on par with members of the great royal courts. In some cases, these artists were even called “divine” or “genius.” The latter refers to the new knowledge of science and mathematics.
Giorgio Vasari, a 16th century painter, writer and historian wrote in 1550, “Truly great was the advancement conferred on the arts of architecture, painting, sculpture by those excellent masters…” [1] He was referring to the artists of the previous centuries (14th and 15th) because he believed they had provided the appropriate groundwork that enabled the artists of the 16th century to excel. So they were a paragon (or model) of perfection for Vasari, as well as the artists of subsequent centuries.
    Vasari’s most famous book,
The Lives of the Most Eminent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects of Italy,
focused on the biography of the artist. Although this was a new concept, it was relevant to the “cult of fame” that surrounded High Renaissance artists. People were eager to learn about the early life and training methods of the artists. His book eventually became the prototype for art historical writing.
For this discussion, select a work of art from the readings (text or online) and describe a work of art or architecture.  How did this work of art contribute to the Renaissance?
