Children’s literature is a great way to introduce new topics and engage students in making connections to develop deeper knowledge of content. Intentionally selected books can be a starting point for meaningful hands-on instruction that integrates multiple content areas.

Using your unit plan outline theme and standards, identify developmentally appropriate resources that will support the theme and the selected standards. Research and identify one fiction book, one non-fiction book, and one technology resource that could be used. In 150-250 words per resource, explain the following:

    – How the resource is developmentally appropriate and meets the needs of students with and without exceptionalities
    – How you will use each resource to support the learning of the selected standards in the unit plan
    – How using the resource will increase student engagement in the learning

Support this assignment with a minimum of three scholarly resources.

While APA style format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and in-text citations and references should be presented using documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

Integrating social studies with language arts ensures that social studies concepts are being taught in a curriculum where the focus on reading and math might make it hard to fit in dedicated time for social studies. This integration also supports important skills that will benefit students throughout their school years like reading and comprehending informational texts, conducting research, and investigating real-world events and topics.

Allocate at least 5 hours in the field to support this field experience.

Observe one social studies and one ELA lesson in your mentor teacher’s classroom. If social studies is not being taught, collaborate with your mentor to locate another classroom to observe. During your observation, take note of how the teacher integrates other content areas and arts concepts into the lessons.

Following the observation, interview the teacher you observed. Ask the following questions:

    – How do you plan your ELA and social studies lessons?
    – Is there a social studies curriculum provided by the school or district that you use? If not, what types of social studies resources are provided/do you use?
    – What ELA curriculum do you use? Are other content areas, including the arts, incorporated into this curriculum at all?
    – How do you decide which language arts skills to integrate into social studies lessons?
    – Do you incorporate arts concepts into your ELA or social studies lessons? If so, how do you decide which arts concepts to include?
    – What best practices do you implement during cross-content integration to support diverse learners?

Use any remaining field experience hours to assist the mentor teacher in providing instruction and support to the class.

In 250-500 words, summarize your observations and interview with the teacher. What are some strategies you observed or discussed for cross-content integration that you will use in your future professional practice?

APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

This assignment uses a rubric. Review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. A link to the LopesWrite Technical Support Articles is located in Class Resources if you need assistance.

Document the locations and hours you spend in the field on your Clinical Field Experience Verification Form.

Submit the Clinical Field Experience Verification Form to the digital classroom in the last topic. Directions for submitting can be found on the College of Education site in the Student Success Center.

Mental health disorders, also called psychopathology, develop through a combination of biological, psychological, and social influences. These different areas interact in complex ways, which means mental illness usually doesn’t have just one cause. Understanding this helps mental health providers offer better care that fits each person's needs.

From a biological perspective, genetics and brain function play a key role. Some people inherit a higher risk of developing mental illnesses. Boland, Verduin, and Ruiz (2022) report that “twin studies suggest a heritability estimate of approximately 80% for schizophrenia” (p. 508). Additionally, problems with brain chemicals like dopamine or serotonin, or changes in brain areas like the frontal lobe, can affect thinking, mood, and behavior. As Jackson and Milberg (2018) explain, “frontal lobe dysfunction has been linked to difficulties in executive function, which are common in many psychiatric disorders” (p. 68).

Psychological factors include how people think, feel, and behave. Negative thinking patterns, poor coping skills, and learned behaviors can contribute to issues like depression and anxiety. Boland et al. (2022) highlight that these patterns can become automatic, making them hard to change without support. Development also matters—children who experience trauma, neglect, or instability are at greater risk for mental health problems. Masten and Kalstabakken (2018) point out that “children exposed to early adversity are at increased risk for a range of psychological disorders” (p. 20), showing how early life experiences shape mental health later on.

Social and cultural factors also influence mental illness. People from different cultures may express or understand mental health symptoms in unique ways. For example, Boland et al. (2022) write, “Somatization is often a culturally shaped way to express psychological distress” (p. 492), which means people might feel physical pain instead of emotional symptoms. Other social stressors, like poverty, discrimination, or lack of support, can make symptoms worse. Cheung and Mak (2018) explain that “stigma associated with mental illness remains one of the major barriers to seeking help in many Asian cultures” (p. 130), which shows how social pressures can prevent people from getting needed care.

In conclusion, psychopathology is shaped by many factors working together. Biological traits, personal thoughts and experiences, and the social world all contribute to mental health. A complete understanding of these influences allows professionals to create better, more personalized treatment plans.

    **Discussion Main Post**

Psychopathology refers to a collective study of mental disorders known to be mental illness. There are several aspects that can influence the development of psychopathology and include biological, psychological, and social and cultural factors. As a provider, it is important to learn the various influences and factors as a nurse practitioner to create an appropriate treatment plan.

    **Biological Factors**

Biological factors include an individual’s genetics and neurobiology. Andreassen et al. (2023) explains genetics variants in an individual may act to increase the risk for developing a psychiatric disorder. This means that an individual with multiple gene variants may lead to an increased risk for developing mental illness such as schizophrenia. Additionally, an individual with family members with mental illness, may increase the hereditary risk for genetic influence on illnesses such as ADD, bipolar, alcoholism, and schizophrenia. Psychiatric disorders also share genetic influences with a range of behavioral and somatic traits and diseases, including brain structures, cognitive function, immunological phenotypes and cardiovascular disease, suggesting shared genetic etiology of potential clinical importance (Andreassen et al., 2023). The neurobiology includes the development and function of neurotransmitters and pathways. For example, an alteration in the balance of norepinephrine and serotonin may lead to depression.

    **Psychological Factors**

Another set of factors include the emotional, developmental, and cognitive and behavioral processes. Individuals and children grow in various environments. A child that is not able to learn to regulate their emotions may have a hard time managing anger or anxiety as they get older. The lack of ability to manage stress in a healthy manner, may lead to unhealthy coping, such as substance use. Childhood trauma may influence and create emotional damage, depression, flashbacks, and post-traumatic stress. Cognitive and behavioral factors, such as negative self-talk, can influence psychopathology. Mental health development in infancy and early childhood includes the dynamics of the infants' inborn capacities and the progressive integration of physiological and emotional influences, as well as the attentional and cognitive stimulation (Ammitzboll et al., 2024).

    **Social, Cultural, and Interpersonal Factors**

Kirkbride et al. (2024) discusses an individual’s surrounding environment can also influence psychophysiology, such as poverty, can lead to increased stress, which can lead to increased risk for mental illness like anxiety or depression. Social interaction can have an effect at an early age, such as baby bonding can sooth an infant and the lack of nurture may have an opposite effect. An individual’s culture may not acknowledge or accept mental illness, which will also affect treatment and management of the disease. Culture encompasses an individual’s beliefs, practices, and traditions. Interpersonal factors include relationships between individuals. Radzilini (2024) explains interpersonal relationships, such as marriages and friendships, can be healthy or unhealthy and affect mental illness. For example, a marriage that consist of chronic tension or betrayal, may lead to increased risk for anxiety or depression due to conflict.

cultural education/counseling. Conduct an exhaustive literature search of the definition
    and use of the term.

 Students have the freedom to format the definition in a style that best suits their
background, expertise, and interests however they must provide information that
    answers the following questions:

    1. Where did the term come from?
    2. What are the alternative definitions?
    3. What is the preferred definition and why?
    4. What one or two primary sources can one go to find out more about the term?

 The meaning of some terms changes over time so you may want to consider providing a
short historical perspective in writing the definition.

 Definitions should be typed, doubled space throughout. Your assignment should be
limited to about 2 pages (maximum of 350 – 400 words). The cover page and the
reference page are not included in the 2-page minimum.

 The paper must be submitted in Microsoft Word; Times New Roman font; 12 pt.
font size; margins 1” on all sides; double-spaced. The assignment should be written
on a graduate level and references used should be cited within the discussion and
documented in a reference list using APA styling.

 Post your paper, as a single document, to the grade book.

 Send your instructor an email when you are ready for your assignment to be graded.

    APA Format Guides

The instructor has provided links to resources that provide assistance on APA format issues. Be
sure to review these links and do not hesitate to ask for assistance if you are not sure about
something. Ask yourself the questions below before you submit a paper. This list by no means
addresses every possible mistake that could be made, but it will bring common mistakes to your
    attention.

 Is your paper double spaced?
     Are necessary abbreviations explained?

 Are references cited in-text present on your reference list? Remember that the website itself
    is a source.

 Did you include in-text citations for all the resources you used? Only references used to
support your writing should be on your reference list.

 Numbers ten and below should be spelled out.

 Are quotes referenced correctly in-text? Quotes should be used sparingly. There should be
no more than one quote in a three-page paper.

 Are your sources presented properly on your reference list? Pay close attention to indention
    rules and capitalization rules.

 Is your title page presented according to APA format?

 Is there a page break inserted for the reference page?

 Did you include an appropriate running heading for your paper?

 Did you proof your paper and have another person proof your paper before submitting the
    paper?

Writing assignments are taken quite seriously. Graduate students are
expected to write clearly and concisely, and the order of your thoughts should

be logical. Know that each paper is read with these things in mind. If your
writing is wordy or if you use awkward phrasing it will impact the format, style

and grammar portion of your grade.

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, read the following:

    – Chapter 1: Introduction to Business Analytics
    – Chapter 2: Data Management and Wrangling
    – Chapter 3: Summary Measures

Imagine that you are hired as a data analyst for a bank. The bank would like to learn more about its customers’ spending and banking habits to identify areas of improvement. You have been asked to review the bank’s income statements over the last five years and identify trends that will allow them to understand their customers better.

Download your chosen bank’s annual income statements from the last five years from the [_Mergent OnlineLinks to an external site._](https://go.openathens.net/redirector/ashford.edu?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mergentonline.com%2F) database in the University of Arizona Global Campus University Library. Use the “Company Financials” tab in Mergent to access the income statements.

    In your assignment,

    – Identify an area of the bank’s income statement related to customer spending.
    – Describe the data points or variables that give a complete picture of the customers’ spending pattern for the last six months.
    – In addition to the income statement, explain which other data sources you might use to understand the customers’ spending patterns.
    – List the steps you will take to prepare all these data sources such that they afford clear and accurate information.
    – Build a frequency table, a bar chart, and a pie chart using Excel for the identified variables that explain the customers’ spending patterns. Review the [_Microsoft Excel Help: HomeLinks to an external site._](https://go.openathens.net/redirector/ashford.edu?url=https%3A%2F%2Fuagconline-libguides-com.eu1.proxy.openathens.net%2Fc.php%3Fg%3D895525%26p%3D6440517) webpage, available for resources to help utilize Microsoft Excel. Use the same three variables in each table and chart to display the same data in three different formats.
    – After presenting your data in three formats, evaluate which tables and charts you find most helpful for communicating the desired message about the bank’s customers. For assistance on when and how to use tables, refer to resource [_Tables, Images, & Appendices_Links to an external site.](https://writingcenter.uagc.edu/tables-images-appendices).
