For this assignment, develop a 1,250- to 1,500-word proposal that includes the following elements:
    – The proposal identifies and promotes one specific safety, risk management, or quality improvement initiative that is recognized or has proven to be successful.
    – An explanation of how the proposed idea would benefit your employer/organization, or if you are not currently employed in this capacity, would benefit an organization in your city/region in your chosen health care field.

Research project 1: Market structures and Pricing Strategies

Pricing strategy varies significantly across different market structures of
perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly and monopoly
which are complex. As discussed in detail in your textbook,
the assessment of market structure is conducted on the basis of

intensity of competition, depending on the number of firms in
    the industry,
homogeneity of products, evaluated by the extent of
substitutability of a firm product by the products of its rivals,
barriers to entry, estimated by the complexities and obstacles
confronting potential firms from entering the industry,
information asymmetry, assessed by the degree of availability of
    knowledge of price to buyers.

Develop a paper detailing an analysis of market structures and relating
pricing strategies that are suitable for each of these structures.
Furthermore, include a real world example of pricing strategy for a
specific company by identifying its market structure.
This research paper must be documented in Microsoft Word, APA
formatted, and includes at least three scholarly peer reviewed articles. I
strongly recommend the use of the APUS library since the most

Assignment 2: Application of Porter's Five Force Strategy to the U.S. Auto
    Industry

    Porter's five-force strategy is a framework for qualitatively evaluating a firm's
strategic position at the industry level, a marketplace in which closely related
substitutable products or services are sold. Porter's analytical framework
consists of those forces that affect a producer's ability to serve its customers and
profitability. A change in any of these five forces requires a re-assessment of the
    firm position in the industry.

According to this model, business success is primarily based on managers’
knowledge of the power of customers, the power of suppliers, competition in the
industry, potential entrants, and substitute products. The extended rivalry from
all five forces defines an industry’s structure and shapes the nature of
    competitive interaction within an industry.

Case 1 – Ratios and Financial
    Planning
    [Chapter 3, page 81]

In 1969, Tom Warren founded East Coast Yachts. The company’s
operations are located near Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and the
company is structured as a sole proprietorship. The company has
manufactured custom midsize, high-performance yachts for clients, and
its products have received high reviews for safety and reliability. The
company’s yachts have also recently received the highest award for
customer satisfaction. The yachts are primarily purchased by wealthy
individuals for pleasure use. Occasionally, a yacht is manufactured for
purchase by a company for business purposes.

The custom yacht industry is fragmented, with a number of manufacturers.
As with any industry, there are market leaders, but the diverse nature of
the industry ensures that no manufacturer dominates the market. The
competition in the market, as well as the product cost, ensures that
attention to detail is a necessity. For instance, East Coast Yachts will spend
80 to 100 hours on hand-buffing the stainless steel stem-iron, which is
the metal cap on the yacht’s bow that conceivably could collide with a
    dock or another boat.

Several years ago, Tom retired from the day-to-day operations of the
company and turned the operations of the company over to his daughter,
    Larissa.

Because of the dramatic growth at East Coast Yachts, Larissa decided that
the company should be reorganized as a corporation and, today, the
company is publicly traded under the ticker symbol “ECY.”

Dan Ervin was recently hired by East Coast Yachts to assist the company
with its short-term financial planning and also to evaluate the company’s
financial performance. Dan graduated from college five years ago with a
finance degree, and he has been employed in the treasury department of a
    Fortune 500 company since then.

The company’s past growth has been somewhat hectic, in part due to poor
planning. In anticipation of future growth, Larissa has asked Dan to
analyze the company’s cash flows. The company’s financial statements are
    prepared by an outside auditor.

After Dan’s analysis of East Coast Yachts’ cash flow (at the end of our
previous chapter), Larissa approached Dan about the company’s
performance and future growth plans. First, Larissa wants to find out how
East Coast Yachts is performing relative to its peers. Additionally, she
wants to find out the future financing necessary to fund the company’s
growth. In the past, East Coast Yachts experienced difficulty in financing
its growth plan, in large part because of poor planning. In fact, the
company had to turn down several large jobs because its facilities were
unable to handle the additional demand. Larissa hoped that Dan would be
able to estimate the amount of capital the company would have to raise
next year so that East Coast Yachts would be better prepared to fund its
    expansion plans.

To get Dan started with his analyses, Larissa provided the following
financial statements. Dan then gathered the industry ratios for the yacht
    manufacturing industry.

    Assignment Directions

Write a case analysis of 2,000 – 2,500 words (8 to 10 pages), content (title

page and reference page not included) in proper APA format, covering the

    following requirements:

    1. East Coast Yachts uses a small percentage of preferred stock as a
source of financing. In calculating the ratios for the company, should
preferred stock be included as part of the company’s total equity?

    2. Calculate all of the ratios listed in the industry table for East Coast
Yachts for 2023. (Use Excel to do the calculations, then copy and

    paste them into your paper).

    3. Compare the performance of East Coast Yachts to the industry as a
whole. For each ratio, use decision criteria and comment on why it

might be viewed as positive or negative relative to the

industry. Suppose you create an inventory ratio calculated as
inventory divided by current liabilities. How would you interpret this
ratio? How does East Coast Yachts compare to the industry average
    for this ratio?

    4. Calculate the sustainable growth rate for East Coast Yachts.
Calculate external funds needed (EFN) and prepare pro forma income
statements and balance sheets assuming growth at precisely this
rate. Recalculate all of the ratios in the previous question given these

new criteria. What does your analysis conclude? (Use Excel to do the

calculations, then copy and paste them into your paper).

    5. As a practical matter, East Coast Yachts is unlikely to be willing to
raise external equity capital, in part because the shareholders don’t
want to dilute their existing ownership and control positions.
However, East Coast Yachts is planning for a growth rate of 20
percent next year. What are your conclusions and recommendations

about the feasibility of East Coast’s expansion plans?

    6. Most assets can be increased as a percentage of sales. For instance,
cash can be increased by any amount. However, fixed assets often
must be increased in specific amounts because it is impossible, as a
practical matter, to buy part of a new plant or machine. In this case,
a company has a “staircase” or “lumpy” fixed cost structure. Assume
that East Coast Yachts is currently producing at 100 percent of
capacity and sales are expected to grow at 20 percent. As a result, to
expand production, the company must set up an entirely new line at
a cost of $75 million. Prepare the pro forma income statement and

balance sheet given these new criteria. What is the new EFN with

these assumptions? What does this imply about capacity utilization
for East Coast Yachts next year? (Use Excel to do the calculations,

then copy and paste them into your paper).

    Submission Guidelines

Prepare this Assignment according to the APA guidelines, including a
title page, an introduction, and a conclusion. An abstract is not

required. Use in-text citations and include a References section. A
template is included in the Resources and Supports.

In your report, make certain that you include at least three (3)
credible outside references from search engines or scholarly sources
    from the APUS Online Library.

Note that your attached paper will automatically be submitted to
Turnitin, and an Originality Report should be sent back to the
classroom within around 15 minutes. The Originality report does not
actually recommend changes. It does point out where you may need
to add a citation or quotation marks (if not already cited). Once you
use it a few times, you will appreciate this tool, as it will assist you in
improving quality and content, as well as avoiding plagiarism. Your
goal is to keep direct quotations to a minimum and to make sure
that you do not just cut and paste material. Ensure that all your
references are cited.  Students should strive for a TII report with a

similarity index of less than 20%.

In the Assignment dropbox, please attach your paper as a file; do
not copy & paste. Submit your assignment by 11:59 pm ET, Day 7

    (Sunday).

Your paper will be evaluated according to the Writing Assignment Grading

Rubric shown below. To maximize your grade, be sure to use the proper
organization (intro, body, conclusion) and follow APA style. Your paper

    Case 2 – Capital Investment
    Decisions

    [Chapter 8]

Bethesda Mining is a midsized coal mining company with 20 mines located in
Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Kentucky. The company operates deep
mines as well as strip mines. Most of the coal mined is sold under contract, with
excess production sold on the spot market.

The coal mining industry, especially high-sulfur coal operations such as Bethesda,
has been hard-hit by environmental regulations. Recently, however, a combination
of increased demand for coal and new pollution reduction technologies has led to
an improved market demand for high-sulfur coal. Bethesda has just been
approached by Mid-Ohio Electric Company with a request to supply coal for its
electric generators for the next four years. Bethesda Mining does not have enough
excess capacity at its existing mines to guarantee the contract. The company is
considering opening a strip mine in Ohio on 5,000 acres of land purchased 10
years ago for $5.4 million. Based on a recent appraisal, the company feels it could
receive $7.5 million on an aftertax basis if it sold the land today.

Strip mining is a process where the layers of topsoil above a coal vein are
removed and the exposed coal is removed. Some time ago, the company would
remove the coal and leave the land in an unusable condition. Changes in mining
regulations now force a company to reclaim the land; that is, when the mining is
completed, the land must be restored to near its original condition. The land can
then be used for other purposes. As they are currently operating at full capacity,
Bethesda will need to purchase additional equipment, which will cost $65 million.
The equipment will be depreciated on a seven-year MACRS schedule. The

contract only runs for four years. At that time, the coal from the site will be entirely
mined. The company feels that the equipment can be sold for 60 percent of its
initial purchase price. However, Bethesda plans to open another strip mine at that
time and will use the equipment at the new mine.

The contract calls for the delivery of 500,000 tons of coal per year at a price of $84
per ton. Bethesda Mining feels that coal production will be 750,000 tons, 810,000
tons, 830,000 tons, and 720,000 tons, respectively, over the next four years. The
excess production will be sold in the spot market at an average of $95 per ton.
Variable costs amount to $43 per ton and fixed costs are $5.2 million per year. The
mine will require a net working capital investment of 5 percent of sales. The NWC
will be built up in the year prior to the sales.

Bethesda will be responsible for reclaiming the land at termination of the mining.
This will occur in Year 5. The company uses an outside company for reclamation
of all the company’s strip mines. It is estimated the cost of reclamation will be $5.4
million. After the land is reclaimed, the company plans to donate the land to the
state for use as a public park and recreation area as a condition to receive the
necessary mining permits. This will occur in Year 5 and result in a charitable
expense deduction of $7.5 million. Bethesda has a 21 percent tax rate and a
required return of 12 percent on new strip mine projects. Assume a loss in any
year will result in a tax credit.

    Assignment Directions
Write a case analysis of 1,000 – 1,250 words (4 to 5 pages), content (title
page and reference page not included) in proper APA format, covering the
    following requirements:

You have been approached by the president of the company with a request to
analyze the project. Define, calculate, discuss, and use decision criteria to assess
the investment using the following methods:

    1. Payback period.
    2. Profitability index
    3. Net present value

    4. Internal rate of return

Based on your analysis, should Bethesda Mining take the contract and open the
mine? In your analysis, discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using each
method for capital investment decisions. Discuss any other capital investment
techniques that you would use to help you make a more informed decision. Are
there any other variables that they should consider in their decision?

    Submission Guidelines
Prepare this Assignment according to the APA guidelines, including a title
page, an introduction, and a conclusion. An abstract is not required. Use in-
text citations and include a References section. A template is included in
    the Resources and Supports.

In your report, make certain that you include at least three (3) credible
outside references from search engines or scholarly sources from the
    APUS Online Library.

Note that your attached paper will automatically be submitted to Turnitin,
and an Originality Report should be sent back to the classroom within
around 15 minutes. The Originality report does not actually recommend
changes. It does point out where you may need to add a citation or
quotation marks (if not already cited). Once you use it a few times, you will
appreciate this tool, as it will assist you in improving quality and content, as
well as avoiding plagiarism. Your goal is to keep direct quotations to a
minimum and to make sure that you do not just cut and paste material.
Ensure that all your references are cited.  Students should strive for a TII
report with a similarity index of less than 20%.

Case 3 – Cost of Capital
    [Chapter 12]

The Cost of Capital for Master Tools

You have recently been hired by Master Tools (MT) in its relatively new
treasury management department. MT was founded eight years ago by
Martha Masters. Martha found a method to streamline the manufacturing
process, resulting in a cheaper tool. The tools manufactured by MT are
designed for the mass market and sold primarily through retail. The
company is privately owned by Martha and her family, and it had sales of
    $97 million last year.

MT primarily sells to do-it-yourself (DIY) customers who use the tools for
personal projects, although it does sell through various online
marketplaces. As a result, the company’s sales are price sensitive. When
the company had sufficient capital, it would expand production. Relatively
little formal analysis has been used in its capital budgeting process.
Martha has just read about capital budgeting techniques and has come to
you for help. For starters, the company has never attempted to determine
its cost of capital, and Martha would like you to perform the analysis.
Because the company is privately owned, it is difficult to determine the
cost of equity for the company.

Martha wants you to use the pure play approach to estimate the cost of
capital for MT, and she has chosen Snap-On Incorporated as a
representative company. The following questions will lead you through the
    steps to calculate this estimate.

    Assignment Directions

Write a case analysis of 1,000 – 1,500 words (4 to 5 pages), content (title

page and reference page not included) in proper APA format, covering the

    following requirements:

    1. Most publicly traded corporations are required to submit 10-Q
(quarterly) and 10-K (annual) reports to the SEC detailing their
financial operations over the previous quarter or year, respectively.
These corporate filings are available on the SEC website [webpage].
Go to the SEC website and enter “SNA” for Snap-On in the “Search for
Company Filings” link. Find the most recent 10-Q or 10-K and
download the form. Look on the balance sheet to find the book value
of debt and the book value of equity. If you look further down the
report, you should find a section titled either “Long-Term Debt” or
“Long-Term Debt and Interest Rate Risk Management” that will list a
breakdown of Snap-On’s long-term debt. Discuss and analyze the
items that you would find under long-term debt.

    2. To estimate the cost of equity for Snap-On, go to finance.yahoo.com
and enter the ticker symbol SNA. Follow the various links to find
answers to the following questions: What is the most recent stock
price listed for Snap-On? What is the market value of equity, or
market capitalization? How many shares of stock does Snap-On have
outstanding? What is the beta for Snap-On? Now go back to
finance.yahoo.com and follow the “Bonds” link. What is the yield on
three-month Treasury bills? Using a 7 percent market risk premium,
what is the cost of equity for Snap-On using the CAPM? Discuss and
    analyze your answer.

    3. Go to Reuters [webpage] and find the list of competitors in the
industry. Find the beta for each of these competitors, and then
calculate the industry average beta. Using the industry average beta,
what is the cost of equity? Discuss and analyze whether you use the
beta for Snap-On or the beta for the industry in this case?

    4. You now need to calculate the cost of debt for Snap-On. Go to FINRA
[webpage], enter Snap-On as the company, and find the yield to

maturity for each of Snap-On’s bonds. What is the weighted average
cost of debt for Snap-On using the book value weights and the
market value weights? Discuss and analyze if it makes a difference in
this case if you use book value weights or market value weights?

    5. You now have all the necessary information to calculate the weighted

average cost of capital for Snap-On. Calculate the weighted average
cost of capital for Snap-On using book value weights and market
value weights, assuming Snap-On has a 21 percent tax rate. Discuss
and analyze which cost of capital number is more relevant and why?

    6. You used Snap-On as a representative company to estimate the cost
of capital for MT. What are some of the potential problems with this
approach in this situation? Discuss and analyze what improvements
    you might suggest.

    Submission Guidelines

Prepare this Assignment according to the APA guidelines, including a
title page, an introduction, and a conclusion. An abstract is not
required. Use in-text citations and include a References section. A

template is included in the Resources and Supports.

Your paper
should have a title page and reference page, but you do not need an
abstract for this assignment. See the PowerPoint presentation attached for
