**Improving Knowledge of Ozempic Use through Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) in Adults with Type 2 Diabetes**

**Improving Knowledge of Ozempic Use through Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) in Adults with Type 2 Diabetes**

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a chronic and progressive metabolic disease that still impacts millions of Americans. Semaglutide (Ozempic), one of the newer pharmacological agents designed to improve glycemic control and help reduce weight, was recently licensed to manage T2D. While Ozempic has clinically proven to work, many patients are unaware of proper use, adverse effects, and how to incorporate the new drug therapy into their overall diabetes self-management plan. Such ignorance develops a massive issue within the treatment regimen for T2D. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 202), diabetes currently impacts more than 38 million Americans, and an estimated 90-95% live with type 2 diabetes. Successful education regarding new drug therapy, such as Ozempic, serves a crucial role to improve self-management and outcomes among patients.

The objective behind this proposed program is to enact a Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) intervention specifically designed to increase adult patient knowledge on Ozempic use and lifestyle self-management. The intervention will utilize pre- and post-program surveys to track self-reported change in knowledge. Educating without changing medical care or private medical information, the program does not entail Institutional Review Board (IRB) and HIPAA breaches while focusing on improved patient empowerment. The proposed end result is measurable and attainable by focusing on improved self-reported knowledge within an eight-week timeframe.

    **PICOT Question**

In adult patients with type 2 diabetes (P), how does participation in a Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) program focused on Ozempic (semaglutide) use (I), compared to no DSME intervention (C), affect self-reported knowledge of medication use and lifestyle management (O) over an eight-week period (T)?

**Population (P):** Adult patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, aged 18 and above, capable of participating in an educational intervention.

**Intervention (I):** A structured DSME program focused on educating patients about Ozempic usage, mechanisms, side effects, administration, and integration with lifestyle modifications.

**Comparison (C):** A group of patients with T2D who receive standard care without participation in the DSME program.

**Outcome (O):** Improvement in self-reported knowledge and confidence regarding Ozempic and general diabetes management, measured using pre- and post-intervention surveys.

**Time (T):** Eight weeks, allowing for sufficient exposure to educational materials and measurable changes in knowledge.

    **Vulnerable Population**

The targeted population includes type 2 diabetes adult populations, which are highly prone to negative health outcomes due to poor health literacy, comorbidities, socioeconomic problems, and problems managing chronic diseases. Many T2D sufferers experience problems following medications, embracing lifestyle changes, and regular care, especially among underserved populations. Social determinants of health (SDOH), such as income, education, food security, and care accessibility, have significant impacts on diabetes outcomes. According to the American Diabetes Association (2023), diabetes victims with poor health literacy possess increased risks of diabetes complications, including cardiovascular disease, limb loss, and kidney failure.

The impacted are disproportionately members of ethnic and racial minorities, foremost among them African Americans and Hispanics, and cultural and linguistic disparities intensify communication barriers between patients and care providers. The evidence abounds that DSME programs are up to the task, by providing targeted education and support, to diminish these barriers (Coningsby et al., 2022). Thematic focus on knowledge development empowers this most vulnerable group to manage their condition proactively.

    **Literature Review**

Interventions incorporating Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) have consistently demonstrated to improve patient outcomes effectively among type 2 diabetes (T2D) adult patients. Ernawati et al. (2021) confirmed that DSME significantly enhances self-care and lifestyle behaviors among T2D sufferers, thereby leading to clinical improvement. Osonuga et al. (2024) also found that DSME enhanced Nigerian patients' quality of life, self-management competence, and glycometabolic control, especially in poor-resource settings. Chowdhury et al. (2024) conducted a meta-analysis on 21 low-income and middle-income countries and revealed DSME interventions reduced the level of HbA1c and improved psycho-social well-being and cardiometabolic risk. Longwitz and Palokas (2022), additionally, revealed that DSME incorporating telehealth was very effective, recording an exceptional increase in best practice and personal care adherence. Individually, these studies justify the implementation of DSME programs by embracing a structured approach, while highlighting accessibility, education, and person-centered support, especially to improve diabetes control.

    **Proposal**

This capstone project proposes the implementation of an eight-week, systematic DSME program to improve knowledge among adult T2D patients on Ozempic and its pairing with lifestyle management. The program will comprise one 1-hour session every week, which will involve use of visual aids, culturally appropriated tools, demonstrations, and Q&A time. The participants will undergo a self-administered knowledge survey pre-program and post-program.

Additional resources required are a certified diabetes educator (CDE), education materials both printed and electronic, and a quiet room to facilitate group learning. Nurses in advanced roles can facilitate the sessions and track participation. Community clinics, faith-based organizations, or virtual platforms can host the sessions, improving accessibility.

    A timeline would include:

    · Week 1: Pre-survey and orientation

    · Weeks 2–7: Weekly educational sessions

    · Week 8: Post-survey and evaluation

The intervention is low-cost, scalable, and aligns with current standards of diabetes education. It avoids IRB and HIPAA concerns by not accessing patient records or managing treatment directly.

    **Theoretical Framework**

The Health Belief Model (HBM) is the guiding theoretical framework for this project. HBM posits that individuals are more likely to adopt health behaviors if they perceive a personal risk, believe in the efficacy of the behavior, and feel empowered to act. This aligns perfectly with DSME, which addresses perceived severity (complications of T2D), benefits (proper use of Ozempic), and self-efficacy (managing lifestyle changes). By using HBM, the DSME sessions will emphasize personal relevance, reinforce benefits of proper medication use, and reduce perceived barriers through demonstration and discussion. The theory supports structured educational interventions that engage, motivate, and empower patients to change their health behaviors. This initiative addresses a significant healthcare challenge. Poor medication literacy leads to complications, hospitalizations, and increased healthcare costs. Empowering patients with knowledge can reduce readmissions, improve quality of life, and foster independence in managing chronic conditions like T2D, even without directly modifying their medical care.

    **Conclusion**

This capstone presentation describes an evidence-based, culturally sensitive DSME intervention designed to improve the knowledge and self-management of adults with type 2 diabetes treated with Ozempic. Grounded in the Health Belbelief Model, the eight-week intervention aims to enhance patients' understanding and belief in semaglutide through educationally framed sessions, real-world demonstrations, and peer support. Filling knowledge gaps without compromising patient confidentiality, the project offers a cost-effective, scalable, and ethical solution. Ultimately, the education-based intervention can achieve improved long-term health outcomes, improved adherence to medications, empowerment of vulnerable populations, and reduction of complications of diabetes, thereby enhancing patient autonomy in managing chronic disease.

    **Quality Improvement Initiative**

Quality Improvement (QI) Initiative Project Description: You are an advanced practice nurse (APN) leader at a local non-profit community hospital, St. Mary’s General Hospital (this is a created hospital system and not meant to be associated with any real hospital system). You have been approached by your Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) as a leader to create and develop a hospital-wide initiative promoting Quality Improvement among nurses. This paper will focus on implementing a hospital wide QI initiative. Please follow the specific grading rubric below as this outline how you will be graded. The first section generally outlines the assignment and may provide some additional guidance on points that need additional clarification for the student above what is described in the grading rubric.

    1. Develop a hospital-wide initiative that promotes QIengagement and skill development by nurses. The nurse leader is expected to befamiliar with QI process and what is needed to ensure successful engagement bynurses within the facility. This assignment requires that students be familiarwith concepts that have been introduced at the undergraduate level such asquality improvement and leadership styles and approaches. The difference at thegraduate level is active engagement in learning rather than passive learning andwill require the student to evaluate, analyze and develop the concepts learnedat the undergraduate level. The introduction and conclusion sections areclearly outlined in the grading rubric below (refer to the grading rubric). Each section of the paper is expected to be well supported by the literature, evidence, best practice and research. This means that students are expected tointegrate multiple literature sources and not rely on one source to inform themajority or even a large part of the paper. Minimally the paper should includeat least 12 references but will likely include more. I check references soplease make sure that the references align and are actually used to support thestatements and viewpoints that you are making in the paper otherwise they failto be ‘supporting’ evidence to back these statements and are therefore opinionand have no place in an academic graduate level paper.

    2. Few key points.

    3. Review and follow the grading rubric andmake sure that you are meeting each of the points outlined in the gradingrubric; failure to do so results in lower grade. The vaguer and morenon-specific the student is in the paper the lower the grade. The reason forthis is that vagueness suggests failure to understand the concept in the paper.Clear and detailed is not synonymous with lengthy, actually detailed andsuccinct is the preferable approach because being both too brief and failing toprovide an adequate understanding of the concepts will suggest lack ofunderstanding and too lengthy and writing as much as possible hoping that youhit upon something that matches the grading rubric criteria is also failure tounderstand the concepts. Do not submit vague and nonspecific information oryour grade will reflect failure to demonstrate understanding. Failure to followthe grading rubric will result in a non-passing grade and you have 1opportunity to submit assignments in this class, refer to the syllabus forgrading policy and submissions guidelines.

    4. For instance, the background and significancesection outline clearly the following in the grading rubric: Identifiesand describes quality improvement (QI); its importance to healthcarefacilities, patients, and stakeholders. How this links QI to all levels ofnursing practice and specifically it’s importance to nurse leaders. What is thefirst step the nurse leader needs to take to fulfill the task assigned by theCNO with a detailed rationale that provides information about the specifictools and measures, interpretation, and application of the findings to guidethe nurse leader’s decision making about the QI initiative. This suggeststhat you are looking for a specific first step that involves a tool or measure,so that is hinting and suggesting the student should be familiar with how QI knowledge, skills and engagement are determined by a nurse leader.

    5. St. Mary’s General Hospital Mission, Vision &Strategic Development Plan are provided for you along with this assignmentin Blackboard under the Assignments Tab. Please make sure that you are usingthe provided document to complete the assignment when the syllabus asks thatyou align the QI initiative with St. Mary’s mission, vision and strategic plan.

This assignment is to be submitted as an essay- with an introduction, questions developed at the graduate level, and a conclusion to summarize and synthesize key points. APA must be strictly followed. The page requirement for this project will be a
**MINIMUM of 10 pages not counting references and the cover page**.

**Health Problem: Untreated Substance Use Disorder in South Florida**

Substance Use Disorder (SUD), particularly OUD, is a major public health issue in South Florida. The prevalence of SUD, particularly synthetic opioid use like fentanyl, endangers local communities. Over 7,000 drug overdose deaths occurred in 2022, with over 60% involving synthetic opioids, according to the Florida Department of Health (2023). Southern Florida has the highest overdose death rates: Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach. About 23% of individuals in Florida with SUD do not get treatment, according to Ryan & Rosa (2020). Hospitalizations, homelessness, jail, and mortality increase with untreated SUD. The limited availability of comprehensive, accessible treatment options exacerbates the problem, particularly for marginalized and economically disadvantaged populations. Through community outreach and telehealth, my proposed health promotion program would enhance the early identification and intervention of individuals with opioid use disorder. This strategy will reduce the number of individuals with OUD in South Florida by 15% over a two-year period. Local treatment clinics, outreach logs, and telehealth appointment records will track this outcome, making it practical and tangible.

**In South Florida, underserved adults are vulnerable.**

In South Florida, OUD mostly affects low-income, uninsured, and underinsured African Americans and Hispanics. Poverty, limited healthcare access, unemployment, housing instability, and systemic discrimination disproportionately impact these populations as social determinants of health. Census Bureau indicate that 18% of Miami-Dade County residents live below the poverty line, and 21% lack health insurance (U.S. Census Bureau, 2024). Socioeconomic vulnerabilities increase SUD risk and cut treatment access. Drug use stigma prevents many individuals in these communities from seeking help. Inaccessible culturally appropriate mental health and substance use care puts this population at risk. According to research (Alegra et al., 2020), minority populations face language barriers, healthcare system skepticism, and provider bias, which results in worse drug use and treatment outcomes. These individuals may also use drugs due to violence, incarceration, and familial instability. Those with ACEs and ongoing community trauma were more likely to become opioid dependent and drop out of treatment (Dydyk et al., 2024). These factors make this population vulnerable to untreated OUD and in need of targeted, accessible, and evidence-based treatments.

Another risk factor is poor primary care-behavioral health integration. Many OUD patients in underserved communities only see healthcare providers in times of crisis, such as an overdose or severe withdrawal, and typically only in hospitals. The episodic treatment approach overlooks drug use's chronicity, resulting in repeated hospitalizations and missed treatments. Long wait times, transportation barriers, and restrictive admissions processes limit access to traditional in-person treatment institutions, particularly for individuals without stable housing or employment. The proposed health promotion program tackles these risk factors to ensure fair, coordinated, and successful treatment of untreated OUD in South Florida.

    **Evidence-Based Interventions**

Community-based OUD interventions have shown effectiveness. Hogue et al. (2021) studied low-threshold buprenorphine programs with peer outreach and harm reduction interventions in urban settings. A 12-month study of over 500 participants in Baltimore, Maryland, demographically similar to South Florida's metropolitan core, found that these interventions improved treatment retention and opioid use. Study strengths included real-world, scalable therapy without abstinence or strict intake protocols. More individuals may use this flexibility. A limitation was self-reported data that may be subject to bias. The findings support the hypothesis that removing OUD structural barriers and increasing peer support may increase OUD treatment participation and outcomes.

The effectiveness of telehealth-delivered medication-assisted treatment (MAT) in rural and underserved populations during the COVID-19 epidemic was also examined by Lin et al. (2020) in the American Journal of Psychiatry. Researchers compared telehealth MAT (buprenorphine and behavioral therapy) to in-person treatment in a randomized controlled trial. The telehealth group reported comparable or better treatment adherence and an increase in service satisfaction. Solid methodology, a diverse sample, and urban and rural involvement are research strengths. Long-term outcomes were undetermined since the investigation was limited to six months. The findings underscore the potential challenges that telehealth access confronts, particularly for populations with mobility barriers or stigmas. Telehealth may increase OUD treatment access.

Community-based outreach and telehealth MAT are effective untreated OUD treatments after analyzing their strengths and weaknesses. Hogue et al. (2021) suggest lowering bureaucratic barriers and fostering peer-led trust to meet patients physically and metaphorically. Harm reduction strategies involve the concept of influence over abstinence and treatment. For addressing rural populations, Lin et al. (2020) underscore the significance of technology. The two results address patient-centered health care that is accessible and is in alignment with the health promotion goal of South Florida. They both point at the risks associated, in terms of data gathering, money, and legality. These issues require planning, community involvement, and a regular check. The research indicates the comprehensive approach that involves outreach, telehealth, medication assisted treatment and culturally competent counseling.

**Health Promotion Theoretical Model for Belief**

The Health Belief Model (HBM) will be used in health promotion. According to people, the HBM is appropriate to cover chronic behavior, such as drug use disorders, through their perceptions about the severity of an illness, feelings of vulnerability, favorability of a change, and impediments to change. The model also includes the notion of self-efficacy and signals to action that are essential in coming up with therapies to help with populations that are disempowered or discouraged by healthcare. In this recommendation, the HBM explains the lack of desire to get treatment in case of individuals with OUD. If their social networks have normalized opioid use, many may not regard themselves as at risk of overdose or long-term harm. Compared to the perceived benefits of opioid use, treatment may reduce it (Ryan & Rosa, 2020). Also, stigma and logistical challenges associated with getting treatment, such as childcare, transportation, or legal ramifications, operate as entrance barriers. The health promotion program will use targeted education and motivational interviewing to shift these perceptions, helping individuals understand their sensitivity to injury, the severity of untreated OUD, and the benefits of OUD treatment.

HBM influences the recommended intervention structure. Peer outreach workers offering health information at community centers, churches, and shelters or street-level engagement are “cues to action.” Online telehealth appointment scheduling and text message reminders may also send similar signals. Participants' self-efficacy, a vital step in behavior change, is improved by the program's accessible, nonjudgmental, and successful message. Medication-assisted treatment and counseling are personalized, like the model's individual assessment. The HBM provides a realistic and evidence-based framework for fostering behavior change in South Florida OUD individuals. HBM has limitations being applied by public health programs. Critics argue that it oversimplifies the behavior change problem and lays too much emphasis on the personal level of cognition and not enough on structural explanations of behavior such as poverty, racism and housing instability. This concept should have a systems-based type of solution to surmount mental and environmental obstacles. In contrast to healthcare, peer navigators help with housing, Medicaid, and job training. Socioeconomic factors are included in this comprehensive treatment of South Florida opioid use disorders.

**RUA: Capstone Evidence-Based Paper**

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to insulin resistance and impaired insulin secretion. The purpose of this paper is to explore T2DM as a priority concept in nursing practice, with an emphasis on evidence-based interventions to improve patient outcomes and reduce complications. This condition aligns with the NCLEX-RN® examination blueprint category of 'Preservation of the Patient Population’s Physiological Integrity,' which focuses on supporting essential functions and preventing deterioration of health status.

This alignment is significant because T2DM affects multiple organ systems and requires ongoing clinical management to prevent complications such as cardiovascular disease, neuropathy, nephropathy, and retinopathy. The nurse’s role includes assessment, patient education, monitoring treatment adherence, and coordinating care with an interdisciplinary team. By addressing this priority concept, nurses promote physiological stability and enhance patient safety through timely interventions and personalized care plans.

    **Importance**

The management of T2DM is vital to professional nursing practice due to its high prevalence and potential for serious complications. Nurses are often on the front lines of patient care, monitoring blood glucose, providing lifestyle education, and ensuring treatment adherence. For the patient population, effective T2DM management reduces the risk of long-term complications, lowers hospital readmissions, and improves quality of life.

If unresolved, T2DM management issues can negatively impact professional practice by increasing nurse workload through repeated hospitalizations and diminishing trust in healthcare services. For patients, unmanaged diabetes can lead to irreversible organ damage and increased healthcare costs. Evidence shows that structured diabetes education and regular monitoring improve glycemic control and significantly reduce the incidence of complications.

    **Healthcare Disparities, Inequalities, and Interventions**

Healthcare disparities significantly affect T2DM outcomes, especially among racial and ethnic minorities, low-income individuals, and rural populations. According to Healthy People 2030, social determinants of health such as access to care, socioeconomic status, and health literacy directly influence diabetes management success. Minority populations often face barriers such as limited access to culturally appropriate education and nutrition resources.

One evidence-based resource to address these disparities is the American Diabetes Association’s Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) program, which provides tailored education to diverse populations. Implementing culturally sensitive interventions, such as bilingual education materials and community-based support groups, can improve adherence to treatment. Patient education must address diet, physical activity, and medication compliance in ways that respect cultural preferences and socioeconomic limitations.

**Legal & Ethical Considerations and Intervention Challenges**

One ethical implication in managing T2DM is respecting patient autonomy while promoting optimal health outcomes. Patients have the right to make informed decisions, even if they decline recommended treatments. A legal consideration involves ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to standards of care to avoid liability.

A strategy to prevent ethical dilemmas includes engaging patients in shared decision-making and providing comprehensive education about treatment benefits and risks. To prevent legal consequences, nurses should follow evidence-based guidelines and maintain thorough records of all patient interactions. Anticipated challenges in prevention include patient non-adherence and healthcare system limitations, while challenges in resolution involve addressing advanced disease complications that could have been avoided with earlier intervention.

    **Participants and Interdisciplinary Approach**

Effective T2DM management involves collaboration between nurses, primary care physicians, and dietitians. Nurses monitor glucose levels, provide education, and coordinate care. Physicians oversee diagnosis, prescribe medications, and adjust treatment plans as needed. Dietitians develop individualized nutrition plans to support glycemic control. Including these interdisciplinary members ensures comprehensive care that addresses medical, nutritional, and educational needs.

Decision Making Process Paper Due

    **Decision-Making Process Paper**

    Instructions

In this assignment, you will be writing a 6–8-page paper identifying, comparing and contrasting at least 3 different decision-making approaches of care from a multidisciplinary perspective using a pertinent and significant topic in nursing (examples might include nursing shortage and nurse turn-over, nurse staffing ratios, unit closures and restructuring, use of contract employees (i.e., registry and travel nurses), continuous quality improvement and patient satisfaction, and magnet designation or another current and relevant nursing issue) the topic
**MUST BE APPROVED** **by your nursing instructor before writing the paper. .** You are required to use APA 7th edition format and the page count does not include title page or reference page. Reflect on your own decision-making practices and the implications this will have regarding differing approaches taken of nursing leaders and staff nurses/clinical practitioners in decision making within to issues in practice. To complete this assignment, do the following:

    1. Select and describe an issue in nursing that impacts nurses at all levels from bedside to advanced practice. Make sure to provide an adequate background and its significance to all levels of nursing using a strong review of the literature. Additionally, this should include a thorough literature review that provides a good understanding of what the cause of this problem is; what is suggested to address this problem. Essentially, this review must support your choices of the decision-making models and this needs to include how all levels of nursing practice (the bedside nurse to the APN are impacted by the problem).

    2. Identify how you would expect a nurse leader/manager, a bedside/staff nurse and an Advanced practice nurse (CNO or NP) to address your selected issue using at least 3different decision-making approaches which are clearly supported by the literature review. This must first include aa detailed analysis/overview of the selected decision making models and how they are used in practice. Then a detailed analysis of how these decision-making approaches/models would address the problem/along with a detailed analysis of how each of the three selected models would be applied to address the selected issue/problem making sure to incorporate this at all levels of practice. One of the decision-making models may be more applicable to the bedside nurse; whereas the other more applicable to the APN; however, all levels of nursing practice need to be addressed with at least one of the chosen 3 decision-making models. However, this does not mean that each decision-making model will apply to all levels of practice only that in this discussion needs to include how each level of nursing practice would utilize the decision-making model to address the problem. For instance, one decision making model may apply to the bedside nurse; the second decision making model may be more applicable at the level of APN (CNO, NP, etc) and the other decision-making model may be best applied to the nurse manager. This section should be detailed; meaning specific, well thought out, realistic solutions of how the nurse (at the level identified; this may include more than one level for the same decision-making model or not) would address the problem using the decision-making model is provided and well supported by the literature. of the benefits and limitations of various decision-making approaches that are applied appropriately to the level of nursing practice to address the selected issue/problem. This is informed from course readings, literature, clinical scenarios and other evidence-based and scholarly sources.

    3. Prioritize the best decision-making approach/model to address the selected problem that is grounded in best practice. This should provide a well-supported rationale for this choice that includes a good comparison and contrasting of the 3 chosen decision-making models that clearly illustrates why the choice was made, that is consistent with the decision making model and how it would address the chosen topic or problem.

    4. Identify a possible funding source that would addresses your approach to solving the problem. For instance, if the best approach to solving the nurse-to-patient ratio problem is through the use of SDM and shared governance, perhaps you may seek a local funding source to provide you with funding to implement a small EBP or research project that would be funded by a local nursing organization such as Sigma Theta Tau or perhaps if it was geared more towards assessing the value of this model towards NP in practice than seeking a local organization that supports funding for projects being implemented by practicing NP? If seeking money for research this would need to be overseen by a nurse with a DNP or a PhD or someone with the credentials to do so that are part of their scope of practice. Consider looking at federal, state,or local organizations. For example: There are many grants available through the CDC,HRSA, etc. Again, this need to be specifically applied with sufficient details

**Nurse Staffing Ratios and Their Impact on Patient Outcomes: A Multilevel Decision-Making Approach**

    **I. Introduction** **A**.
    **Background Information**
Inadequate nurse staffing ratios are a pressing concern in healthcare systems globally. They directly impact patient outcomes, nurse well-being, and institutional performance. Mounting evidence links high patient-to-nurse ratios to increased mortality, medical errors, and nurse burnout (Twigg et al., 2021).

    **B**.
    **Statement of the Problem**
Despite the proven connection between safe staffing levels and positive outcomes, many healthcare institutions continue to struggle with chronic understaffing due to budgetary and regulatory constraints. The COVID-19 pandemic further exposed these vulnerabilities.

    **C**.
    **Thesis Statement**
This paper will examine how nurse staffing ratios affect all levels of nursing practice and how staff nurses, nurse managers, and advanced practice nurses can use Shared Decision-Making (SDM), Evidence-Based Practice (EBP), and Transformational Leadership to address the issue. The article will assess various methods and recommend the best strategy for sustainable clinical staffing improvements.

    **II. Literature Review/Background** **A**.
    **Overview of Existing Research**
Numerous studies have confirmed that safer staffing ratios correlate with improved patient safety and nurse retention (McHugh et al., 2021). Understaffing is also linked to documentation errors and missed care (Poudel, 2025).

    **B**.
    **Key Theories and Models**

    1.
**Shared Decision-Making (SDM):** A participatory model that empowers bedside nurses in staffing-related decisions (Galletta et al., 2022).

    2.
**Evidence-Based Practice (EBP):** Utilizes data to support staffing strategies that align with patient acuity and safety .

    3.
**Transformational Leadership:** Encourages executive advocacy and systemic change by aligning workforce policies with nursing values .

    **III. Main Body/Discussion**
    A.
    **Topic Analysis or Context**

    1. Overview of staffing challenges in current hospital environments.

    2. Regulatory disparities across states and implications for equity and care quality .

    3. The financial and ethical burden of chronic understaffing .

    B.
    **Comparative Analysis of Decision-Making Approaches**

    1.
**Shared Decision-Making:** Promotes inclusivity and improves bedside nurse morale but may be limited in hierarchical settings.

    2.
**Evidence-Based Practice:** Equips nurse managers with data to justify staffing needs.

    3.
**Transformational Leadership:** Enables executives to drive systemic changes, enhance job satisfaction, and reduce turnover (Hilton et al., 2021).

    **C**.
    **Application and Implications**

    1. Case examples of model implementation at various nursing levels.

    2. Integration of SDM, EBP, and Transformational Leadership into a unified, collaborative staffing strategy.

    3. Institutional readiness, challenges, and recommendations for sustaining staffing reforms.

**IV. Conclusion** **A.** **Summary of Key Points**
Each model SDM, EBP, and Transformational Leadership contributes uniquely to solving the nurse staffing crisis. Their combined application enables data-informed, inclusive, and transformative solutions.

    **B.** **Implications and Next Steps**
The final paper will synthesize these models to offer actionable recommendations for nursing leadership and healthcare institutions. A focus on infrastructure, leadership development, and interdisciplinary collaboration will be emphasized.
