Personality tests in job hiring essay – PSY 255 Topic 3 DQ 1

What jobs should require personality tests prior to hiring a candidate? What traits are important for these jobs?

    Topic 3 DQ 1

I believe that employees of any social services program who’s position allows them power over clients should be given a personality test. During my time employed by a child safety department, I saw personality types from case managers that were toxic to the well being of the clients. Case managers hold power over the parents who are fighting to get their kids back Personality tests in job hiring essay – PSY 255 Topic 3 DQ 1. While there is some accountability, a bad case manager could ruin a parent’s chances or prolong the case. When a case manager came in with an attitude that they were going to rescue all the children, it created an atmosphere where they saw the parents as the enemies and the foster parents as heroes. While the safety of the child is and should be the number one priority, the parents should not be misrepresented, and it is the case managers job to provide resources for the parent to improve themselves. This blinded them to real issues with foster parents that sometimes ended with the child removed from their foster placement.

With that being said, I saw case managers who constantly exhibited healthy personality traits that created nurturing environments for parents, children and foster parents. These case managers never enabled the parents, but gave them the opportunities to succeed. These case managers wanted the parents to get their kids back and gave them the opportunities to better their lives and prove that they were able to safely care for their children. These case managers were patient, empathetic to the hardships people have experienced, resilient when handling tough cases, adaptable to the needs of everyone they worked with, and most importantly, honest. These are traits that I believe anyone with a position of power should exhibit. Personality tests in job hiring essay – PSY 255 Topic 3 DQ 1

    Hello,

I think there are a lot of jobs out there tht should require personality test, but the ones that comes to my mind first are goverment jobs, and people who work with children or the elderly. I think that specifically for goverment jobs like FBI, police officers, soilders, CPS just government jobs in genereal. I think that for all of these jobs they have to be pretty strong minded, not emotional. Be able to hold their own and control their emotions. Specifically with people who work with CPS thats tough and could be hard for some people to handle. You dont necessarily understand how a job is going to be until you actually are hands on working so I think having a personalty test is important.

    Topic 3 DQ 1

I would have to stay jobs involving law enforcement and healthcare workers are jobs that should require a personality test prior to testing. Personality tests in job hiring essay – PSY 255 Topic 3 DQ 1 Law enforcement and healthcare workers come into direct contact with people that are in need of some type of physical treatment and how that treatment is administered can tremendously affect their careers or how they are viewed by the public. Some important traits that law enforcement need to possess are, having negotiation skills, good communication skills, mental agility, integrity, compassion, and empathy. Some of the traits listed are lifesaving so, for the peace of mind of the citizens and the safety of everyone it’s important that we have law enforcement in our communities that have these traits. Healthcare workers especially are on the frontlines working during this current global pandemic the traits that they display are very important as well. Some traits healthcare workers need to have are, the ability to problem-solve, compassionate, empathetic, passionate, and good communication skills. A healthcare professional that has these traits will have successful careers and staff and patients that truly respect and appreciate them. The occupations and careers that should require a personality test prior to hiring any prospective individuals or prime candidates are areas of high-stress levels, assistant living positions and or positions with high social interactions. Easily any emergency individuals or medical responders, and nursing home personnel just to mention a few.

In our textbook, a trait is defined within the depth in the categories of people displaying specific or distinctive characteristics. Understanding firstly that traits stability is solely based on time and situational environments. With this in mind, narrowing candidates for positions via personality tests in ceratin jobs can bring good results. Traits that are of significance leadership, productivity to aid companies, teams, management to success. Personality tests in job hiring essay – PSY 255 Topic 3 DQ 1

    Hypothesis testing

What test statistic did the researchers use? What did the authors set as the significance level of the test statistic?

The test statistic used was percentage points and confidence interval. In this case, the percentages are calculated for the population sample then confidence interval used to determine how much latitude there is in the range of the calculated percentage if repeated samples were to be taken from the same population. The statistics are presented as best estimates of the population proportions with 5% error PUB 550 – Hypothesis Testing Essay Example. That means that all predictions (figures presented) are wrong for 5% of the samples drawn from the populations. Although the significance level has not been explicitly mentioned in the article, it is implied as 0.05. That is because there is a 5% risk of making the wrong conclusion and rejecting the null hypothesis when it is true (Jiwani et al., 2019).

What was the null hypothesis? What was the alternative hypothesis? Were these clearly stated in the article, or did you have to extrapolate based on the background in the article?

The article does not explicitly mention the research hypothesis. However, it can be inferred that the null hypothesis is: obesity prevalence and burden parallels socioeconomic status among Latin American and Caribbean populations. As such, the alternative hypothesis would be: obesity prevalence and burden does not parallel socioeconomic status among Latin American and Caribbean populations. In this respect, the null and alternative hypotheses were not clearly stated and had to be extrapolated based on the background information presented in the article (Jiwani et al., 2019).

Discuss potential bias that may have resulted from the study design and data collection that could have affected the validity of the test. PUB 550 – Hypothesis Testing Essay Example.

The research applied a cross-sectional study design whereby the researcher measured the outcomes in the study participants at the same time. In fact, it applies an analytical approach that investigates the association between obesity as a health outcome and socioeconomic status as a putative risk factor. Both the health outcome (obesity) and risk factor (socioeconomic status) were measured simultaneously (Jiwani et al., 2019). The study design prevents five potential biases that could have affected the validity of the test. The first potential bias is selection bias whereby the characteristics of the study participants systematically differ from the characteristics of other eligible members of the population who were not included as part of the study sample. The second potential bias is the confounding bias that concerns the relationship between the risk factor and health outcome. The two are measured simultaneously and it is difficult to determine whether the health outcome followed or proceeded the risk factor. Put simply, does being poor predispose an individual to develop obesity or does having obesity predispose an individual to being poor owing to the associated health care costs. The confounding bias confuses the relationship between the health outcome and risk factor so that the researcher makes incorrect associations. The third bias is non-response bias when there is a significant difference between those who did not respond and those who responded. This bias is caused by certain individuals being less inclined to offer information, inability to reach the targeted participants, complacency, poorly constructed questions, and refusal to participate. The fourth bias is influence from prior information. Given that information on the health outcome and risk factor are recorded simultaneously, prior knowledge of the medical condition might influence the ascertainment of the health outcome. The final bias is detection and recall bias that influences the researchers to make assumptions about the risk factor and health outcome resulting in the participant being incorrectly classified (Mackey & Gass, 2015).

Summarize the story told by the data used in this study as it applies to the larger population. Comment on whether the authors used the interpretation approach discussed in the textbook, including (a) summarize why the study was done, (b) discuss the factual results, (c) explain what the results mean, and (d) make suggestions for future research.

The study explores the associated between socioeconomic status and obesity burden among Latin American and Caribbean populations using a cross sectional design approach PUB 550 – Hypothesis Testing Essay Example. It acknowledges that the burden of obesity differs across populations based on socioeconomic status and seeks to characterize the prevalence of obesity incidences among adult populations in Latin America and the Caribbean overtime with a focus on obesity burden and socioeconomic measures. Based on a survey conducted between 1998 and 2017 in 13 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, the study generated outcomes for obesity by wealth, education and residence area. The study recruited 479,809 participants with the results showing that obesity prevalence increased over time. Evaluations of the results by region determined that the highest prevalence was among women in Mexico and lowest prevalence was among women in Haiti. Urban residents were noted to have larger disease burden when compared to their rural counterparts with differences ranging from 0.1 percentage point in Paraguay to 15.8 percentage point in Peru. The trend analysis conducted on the collected data suggested shifting obesity burden across socioeconomic groups and different gender patterns. The research study concludes that there is an increase in obesity prevalence in Latin Americas and the Caribbean regions, and the prevalence is paralleled with shifting burden and unequal distribution across socioeconomic groups. The implication is that there is a high likelihood of obesity occurring among low socioeconomic groups, and prevention strategies targeting low socioeconomic groups would be a more effective intervention strategy (Jiwani et al., 2019) PUB 550 – Hypothesis Testing Essay Example.

While the results are useful in informing on the research topic, the biases inherent in the research design applied place the results into question. As such, there is a need for a study that compares the results of interventions conducted among the different socioeconomic groups to determine if this would be an effective intervention strategy.

    Topic 4 DQ 2

As we have discovered in our readings this week, there are many risks and benefits that come along with extraversion. If a pill were developed to make people extroverted should some people start taking it, one risk would be in regard to the ability of the person to study for a test. Burger (2017) states of extroverts that, “Unless the study material is particularly exciting, the extravert will probably take a number of breaks, look around for distractors, and generally have a difficult time keeping his or her mind on the task” (p. 239). This, in turn, would likely make them get low scores on the tests and not be a very good student in general. If a significant amount of the population were to become extraverted through this pill, that could lead to more distracted students, which would not make them adequately prepared for the class material or the workforce Extroversion Essay. Like I used to say in Ethical Thinking in the Liberal Arts last semester, the world would seemingly not be a better place if this conclusion became true. Another risk related to being an extravert would be impulsivity. As Burger (2017) notes, “Extraverts are also more impulsive than introverts. Extraverts are more likely to act on the spur of the moment, and this impulsivity can cause problems” (p. 241). I actually chose to take this class impulsively because I wanted to give myself more to do during COVID-19. That does not necessarily qualify me as an extravert, however. If a significant amount of the population took this pill and became impulsive, we would likely have a lot of people running around making decisions on the fly, which would not be an optimal circumstance for society. On the other hand, there are also benefits to extraversion. Extroverts have been found to have increased happiness, according to Burger: “Although introverts may have difficulty understanding this at first, researchers find that on average, extraverts report higher levels of happiness than introverts” (p. 240) Extroversion Essay. There are several reasons for why this is the case. Extraverts tend to socialize more than introverts, extraverts may be more sensitive to rewards than introverts, and extraverts are more likely than introverts to seek out activities they feel will be fun. Moreover, “high levels of extraversion are also linked to high levels of overall well-being” (p. 240). I interpret this as due to their social needs being met through being with many other people. These are the risks and benefits that extraverted people would possess.Burger, J.M. (2017).

    Topic 4 DQ 2

I personally find it fascinating that ADHD is related to extroversion. According to our textbook the left brain and the right side of the brain work in different ways. The left identifies more as the extrovert while the right side can be in relation with the introvert trait. If we took this into account the pill would technically be rewiring the brain. Therefore, an advantage of such a pill would make it easier to study the brain in certain aspects. Biological psychologists might be able to narrow down a specific gene or pattern of the brain that indicates the likelihood of becoming depressed or an introvert. If the pill was monitored and not overdosed; another advantage would be creating more well-rounded people. Where people lack in characteristics would have the opportunity to be made up due to the pill. Extroversion Essay Although, I can see benefits there are a few disadvantages I would notice. First, I believe God made everyone unique and beautiful just the way they are. If he wanted someone with ADHD to completely change how they are he would have made them that way. God created us in imagine of himself; therefore, God in ways has ADHD. Why would we not want to be like God? Why completely get rid of the image of God within us? Another disadvantage is everyone would be the same Extroversion Essay. The world would have lack of diverse personalities and opinions. It could lead to too many cooks in the kitchen as my grandmother used to say. If we all have our own opinions and they must be heard then we will struggle to get anything done productively.

    Topic 4 DQ 2

Hi everyone,The concept of extraversion and introversion were covered in depth in this topic’s reading material. I do believe that this question depends on what an introvert wants to gain from taking a pill like this. In situations where an introvert wants to gain social experience, or gain self-confidence being in these situations then yes, a pill causing more extraverted personality traits would be helpful Extroversion Essay. When looking at extraverts, they carry themselves in a different way than introverts do. The negative side effects of taking a pill like this for an introvert, would potentially give them too much energy and social capabilities that would take away from things they previously liked doing, such as reading a book with a cup of tea, or doing yoga on the patio. Introverts are often time much more at peace with themselves, making them more comfortable spending time alone, and enjoying it. A pill causing more extraverted traits would potentially take away that peace and tranquility.

    Topic 4 DQ 2

Extroversion is highly connected to the need for stimulation in a way that is similar to ADHD. If a pill were developed to make people extroverted should some people start taking it, what are the risks and benefits? Extroversion Essay

    Good Evening Class,

If a pill were developed to make people extroverted I do not believe people should start taking it. It does seem plausable, as our textbook reviewed alpha waves the brain gives off when it experiences different emotions. So if researchers can study brain waves and determine that extroverts experience more of their alpha waves on the left side of the brain in correlation to positive emotions, then create a pill to help introverts be more extroverted? If our personality is infact genetically inherited and passed down to us through our parents, and their parents and so on, why would an introvert want to be more of an extrovert, and vice versa. I know that many people think of people they know and say things like why are they so friendly, or why are they so positive all the time. Or some get frustrated and want their friends or family members to be more social or outgoing. This shouldn’t cause someone to want to be something that they aren’t.

I believe that if it has taken a century and longer to study the human personality, and still there are so many luming questions, and going studies, the brain and how a persons personality develops is a very intricate part of a person. Something of this magnitude should be cared for with a certain high level of caution and care. A persons personality is a very important part of what makes them who they are. Making a pill to change them into something else just seems wrong. The ramifications of doing this to me could be very damaging and not worth the risk. Extroversion Essay.

    Topic 4 DQ 2

If a pill were to be developed to make people extroverted, the results could vary from very minimal to extremely drastic. Extroverts are the happiest when around people and when they are able to express their feelings (“Extroversion and Introversion,” 2020). However, introverts enjoy solitude and their imagination (“Extroversion and Introversion,” 2020). If many introverts began to take a pill to help them become extroverted, it poses the threat of completely altering their mind. They are programmed a certain way and altering their personality could dramatically impact their mental state. In addition, another risk is that if there is an abundance of extroverted people who feel the need to interact with others simultaneously, there would never be a balance of energy. On the other hand, the benefit of some introverts taking a pill to become extroverted would be that there would be more social interaction in the world, which would potentially reduce loneliness and depression Extroversion Essay.

N521 Advanced Pharmacology interactions that may increase drug availability essay

    Module 2 Discussion 1

Potential interactions, in this case, are likely to arise due to various medications, which are taken by the patient to treat different conditions. A.C is currently taking herbal medicines particular St. John’s Wort to manage her depression, iron pills for anaemia, Xanax for her anxiety, and prednisone to manage asthma exacerbation.

Specifically, multiple drug interactions are likely to arise through St. John’s Wort, which is herbal remedy used as an antidepressant. This type of medication induces cytochrome-p450 enzymes in the body. Various tissues of the body, including the liver, have cytochrome-p450 Interactions that may increase drug availability essay. This type of enzyme is involved in the synthesis and breakdown of hormones. Also, cytochrome-p450 is involved in the metabolism of drugs in the body (Foti & Dalvie, 2016). Therefore, the intake of many types of medications is likely to increase or decrease the level of cytochrome-p450 in the body. Consequently, A.C experience difficulty in the metabolism of these medications. Additionally, St. John’s Wort will inhibit alprazolam that is broken down by cytochrome-p450 in the liver. This action, will, in turn, lead to a significant increase in the level of bioavailability of cytochrome-p450 in the body. An increase in drug availability occurs due to a rise in the usage and overdose of various types of drugs. For instance, the level of opioid prescriptions that were dispensed by U.S. pharmacies tripled from 1991 to 2011 (National Institute of Drug Abuse, 2018). These prescriptions increased from 76 million to 219 million during this period. On the hand, some interactions are likely to decrease drug availability. A decrease in drug availability occurs due to the shortage of drugs in the country. Practitioners observe safety measures due to a decrease in drug availability in the country. They are cautious when prescribing drugs to patients to ensure the available drugs are enough. Health officers should check potential for interactions during co-administration of various medications. Advantages and disadvantages in using twins to analyze genetic heritability

Discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages in using twins to analyze genetic heritability. Why might it be useful for future twin studies to separate out monozygotic (identical) from dizygotic (fraternal) twins?

PSY 255 Personality Psychology Topic 4 DQ 1

    Hello,

The advantages in using twins to analyze genetic heritability is twins are the closest model type that behavior geneticists can use for scientific experiments. It is most useful, as you probably already know, to separate out the identical twins from the fraternal twins. Why? Identical twins develop from a single fertilized egg; whereas, fraternal twins develop from separate fertilized eggs. There are no more similarities in fraternal twins than there are with the kids down the block in the same neighborhood. Advantages and disadvantages in using twins to analyze genetic heritability.

    ORDER A PLAGIARISM-FREE PAPER HERE

When we take a closer look at how a human is created and how our genes are developed, we get a clearer understanding how different people truly are; even when born into the same household with the same parents. Humans have different chromosomes, DNA, and genes. These genes according to David Myers believes, “You have 30,000 or so gene words” (2011), that is a lot of gene words for a person’s personality to develop from.

When we think about God, who created each one of us. “We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand” (Isaiah 64:8). I am overwhelmed by the realization of how much God loves us, to create us all differently. We are an original, no two people have the same fingerprint or identical DNA. You and I are masterpieces, “…I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are your works…” (Psalm 139) Advantages and disadvantages in using twins to analyze genetic heritability.

Being created unique and differently, still raises the age-old question, how much does enviroment (nurture) influence personality? Parents still do influence a child’s attitude, value, manners, faith, and politics. Suppose you take identical twins, and the parents divorce and each parent takes one child and raises them differently. According to behavior geneticists the twins could still have the same likes, dislikes, mannerisms, laugh, sense of humar, and tastes in spouses. In conclusion, genetic heritability is still a mystery.

    Re: Topic 4 DQ 1

The advantage is you have two genetically identical people that came from the same egg (monozygotic) and are virtually a carbon copy on one and another. Analyzing the set of twins can give you duplicate results and verifying the results will not be as difficult if they are the only set of children in the family. If they have other siblings then you have two sets of results that can be verified or contested with the other sibling(s). If the heritability results match then we can see we do inherit some of our personality genes from our parents. The disadvantage is they are both raised in the same environment and one can say the environment has an influence in shaping a portion of their personality. Another advantage is the nonadditive effect for monozygotic twins. The probability of sharing exact combination of genes is greater in monozygotic twins than it is with dizygotic twins. Nonadditive effects strengthen the genetic heritability in monozygotic twins but not in dizygotic twins. One serious ethical issue I can see is separating monozygotic or dizygotic twins at birth and separating them by distance and economical tiers to validate the genetic heritability. Advantages and disadvantages in using twins to analyze genetic heritability.

    Topic 4 DQ 1

The different types of twins include identical and fraternal twins. Identical twins are made when a fertilized egg is split; thus creating twins. Fraternal twins are made when two eggs are fertilized at the same time. Each set of twins are unique and different in their own ways. However, one major advantage to twins is their genetic makeup. Twin A and twin B always have the same DNA which can somewhat be looked at as variables. One twin could technically be the dependent variable and the other the dependent due. Advantages and disadvantages in using twins to analyze genetic heritability. For example, if trying to research if breast milk really is best for a baby a mother could breast feed baby A and formula feed baby B. Using the twins that have the same genetic makeup leave less margin for error in my opinion. To look at this from a personality psychological stand point let’s take the movie parent trap. Identical twin girls are separated and live two completely different life styles. If we were trying to see if the twins developed any personality traits from their other parent it would be easier because we would not have the actual parents personality shaping how they are. It would be considered an outside factor because they are not influenced every day by their superego. However, if they were to be raised in the same environment this would leave to the possibility of disadvantages of both their mother and father having an effect on their personalities Advantages and disadvantages in using twins to analyze genetic heritability. Although I believe it is unethical to purposely separate twins I do believe there can be positives to it and if done in a good way can be beneficial. For example, I have three sets of twins in my class; one set of parents is very adamant about them being together at all times; the other two could careless as long as it does not affect their behavior in a negative way. We separate twin O and twin J at meal times because we know if they are together they tend to throw food, kick their friends, and not eat. However, at nap time we have them together because they sleep better when near each other. In my opinion, if done in a manner that does not separate them fully it is best for both twins. Advantages and disadvantages in using twins to analyze genetic heritability

    Re: Topic 4 DQ 1

To introduce this week’s topic of the advantages and disadvantages faced in using twins to analyze genetic heritability, I found the following quote that Burger (2011) mentions relevant: “Eysenck maintained that the individual differences in personality he described are based on physiological differences” (p. 200-201). I feel that this could readily apply to twins. Now, in regard to the actual advantages and disadvantages, one of the most apparent advantages of using twins to analyze genetic heritability is that they share DNA. Therefore, if the testing shows that they have the same characteristics, even if they live separately, that would be evidence to show that twin studies are effective. Another advantage in using twins to analyze genetic heritability is that, according to Burger (2011), “Other methods for teasing apart genetic and environmental influences also find evidence for genetic influence, but are not as strong as in the twin-study data…The strongest and most consistent evidence in favor of genetic influence on personality comes from twin-study research” (p. 235-237). This goes to show just how efficacious data from the twin-study research is relative to other methods of gathering data. Now, a disadvantage of twin-study research is that, “researchers assume that MZ and DZ twins have equally similar environments. However, there is evidence that MZ twins may share more of their environment than DZ twins” (p. 237). This can be quite deceiving, especially when drawing conclusions from the research done on both kinds of twins. Another disadvantage of twin-study research, as Burger mentions, is, “Research suggests that personality traits aren’t passed down from parent to child in a simple, direct manner. Rather, the inherited part of personality is often the result of a combination of a complex combination of more than one gene…That is, the genetic influence of same personality traits may not be seen…” (p. 238). This can also cause deception when interpreting the results of the study. Overall, however, using twins to analyze genetic heritability is useful in that MZ twins’ genes and personalities are not affected by the environments: “As you can see, the MZ twins tend to be quite similar to each other regardless of whether they are raised with or separated from their twin brother or sister…The obvious explanation for this similarity is that the twins’ genes shaped their personalities in a similar manner regardless of the environments they grew up in” (Burger, 2011, p. 256).Burger, J.M. Advanced Pharmacology

    Introduction

Regulations for the APRN are determined at the state level through rule-making and legislation. The regulation and other executive agencies such as the Board of Nursing (BON) establish the scope of practice for APRNs at the state level. The prescribing for the APRNs in several states is restricted by the Pharmacy (BOP) oversight and the state laws (Rudner, 2016). The prescriptive authority for the APRNs is limited, depending on the state. However, many states are considering changing the existing prescribing laws. The purpose of this N521 AANP position statement APRNs Essay paper is to identify peer-reviewed journal articles, regulatory position statements or policies that support changes in APRN prescribing practices at the state or national level.

The position statement by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners
    ®
(AANP) advocates and supports the suggested changes for APRNs to have an unlimited prescriptive authority that includes dispensing privileges. AANP further recommends that the regulation of prescribing authority for APRNs should only be done by the state boards of nursing, and according to the training/education, certification, and the role of the APRN (Xue et al., 2015). The process of the nursing board being exclusively involved in the licensing and regulation of the NPs encourages competent practice and public safety. According to the AANP, APRNs are members of nursing state boards and hence have the suitable competence to regulate the prescribing authority of the NPs. AANP supports and advocates for the national certification of the APRNs (Weiland, 2015) N521 AANP position statement APRNs Essay. According to AANP, the ability of the nurse practitioner to prescribe independently is vital to the provision of quality and cost-effective health-care for the diverse populations. Moreover, the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialist’s (NACNS) Position Statement on Prescriptive Privilege for the Clinical Nurse Specialist supports the changes that support the awarding of independent prescribing and ordering privileges for the nurse practitioners and in this case the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS).

The Primary Care Expert Panel also supports the full scope practice of APRNs which includes unrestricted prescriptive authority for the nurse practitioners. In 2010, the Institute of Medicine’s influential
    Future of Nursing
2010, supported the call for the nurse practitioners to have a full scope of practice, including the prescriptive authority. According to this policy, NPs have the appropriate training, education, and competency to prescribe medications for patients within their specialty (Brom et al., 2018).

    The campaign dubbed “
The Campaign for Consensus: Uniting APRNs, Promoting Uniformity, and Fostering Collaboration
” was by NCSBN held an APRN Summit. The summit aimed to update nursing organizations regarding the status APRN Consensus model. The APRN Consensus Model is the guideline for states to implement uniform regulations when it comes to the roles of APRNs (Brom et al., 2018). Regarding APRN prescribing practices, the campaign by the NCSBN supported the removal of barriers for the APRN scope of practice that included physician collaboration issues during prescriptions and also removal of prescriptive authority limitations. N521 AANP position statement APRNs Essay

The National Governors Association (NGA) report campaign supports the removal of prescriptive limitations and stipulates that APRN have equivalent competency with the physicians and therefore supports change and removal of the scope of practice limitations such as prescriptive restrictions for the APRNs (Weiland, 2015). The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) also published a report in 2014 that supported the position that APRNs are competent and safe independent practitioners. Therefore, the FTC supports the removal of restrictions such as collaborative and supervisory agreements for the APRNs.

Policies such as CARA and SUPPORT Acts have in the past supported the removal of restrictions regarding some prescriptions for NPs. For example, the CARA and SUPPORT Acts enabled the NPs to prescribe Buprenorphine. These policies follow state laws on if an APRN working with a physician through a collaborative or supervisory relationship (Rudner, 2016). Where the state law requires the supervision of the APRN, the physician should not also prescribe buprenorphine. This, therefore, encourages state laws to remove the restriction of APRNs having to be supervised by physicians during the prescription of buprenorphine. The Rules (National Council of State Boards of Nursing, 2011) and the Registered Nurse (APRN) Model Act are the policies that were endorsed to support independent prescribing and ordering privileges for the nurse practitioners (Gadbois et al., 2015). These Acts enabled the Board of Nursing in each specific state to award ordering and prescribing authority to the APRNs through licensing. N521 AANP position statement APRNs Essay.

Alignment with AANP’s Prescriptive Privilege Statement

The policies, position statements, and campaigns regarding the changes in APRN prescribing practices for APRNs align with the AANP’s Prescriptive Privilege Statement. For example, the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialist’s (NACNS) Position Statement on Prescriptive Privilege for the Clinical Nurse Specialist supports the changes that support awarding of independent prescribing and ordering privileges for the nurse practitioners specifically the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) (Gadbois et al., 2015). Similarly, campaigns by the National Governors Association (NGA) report, NCSBN report, and the Institute of Medicine’s influential
    Future of Nursing
2010 support the removal of prescriptive limitations and by arguing that APRNs have the required competency, training and education to practice to the full scope that including removing practice limitations such as prescriptive restrictions. Prescription of drugs, treatments, devices, and modalities is a key element of the APRN role and fundamental to APRN practice. Limiting the prescriptive authority for the APRNs unreasonably restricts the ability of the APRNs to offer comprehensive health care services (Park et al., 2018).

All these positions and initiatives through various policies, campaigns and position statements regarding changes in the prescriptive authority of APRNs are in line with the AANP’s Prescriptive Privilege Statement. According to the AANP, APRNs should practice according to the role, training, education, and certification. This calls for the removal of restrictions that hinder APRNs from prescribing independently. AANP also advocates for the national certification of the APRNs to remove the state restrictions that limit autonomous prescriptive authority for APRNs in some states (Park et al., 2018). In line with the AANP’s Prescriptive Privilege Statement, the discussed policies, campaigns, and position statements support changes that advocate for the ability of APRNs to prescribe without limitations, prescribed controlled substances, medical equipment, and devices (Park et al., 2018) N521 AANP position statement APRNs Essay.

    Conclusion

The discussed policies, position statements, and campaigns support the changes that support the removal of restrictions in APRN prescribing practices for APRNs. These changes include allowing APRNs to prescribe independently without supervision and the authority to prescribe controlled substances, and medical equipment in their specialty. The position from the sources is in line with the AANP’s Prescriptive Privilege Statement.

The effect of the Christian worldview on my personal philosophy of practice and attitude towards patient care

My personal philosophy of practice as a nurse executive and attitude towards patient care is mostly influenced by the Christian worldview. I chose to major in the nursing executive as my profession since I believe in helping those who are in need. As a Christian, I feel I should be dedicated to helping those who are in need of my services anytime. Consequently, I do not consider nursing executive as a career like any other where am supposed to work for a specified number of hours to qualify for payment. Instead, I consider it a calling to help those in need. I focus on offering nonjudgmental care to individuals in need without any form of discrimination based on religion, ethnicity, and financial status NUR 513 -Worldview and nursing process personal statement.

As a Christian, I believe that nurse executives have a God-given duty to provide the public with holistic, safe, quality, patient-centered healthcare services. I consider my patients as human beings who are in need of my medical attention. For this reason, I urge my colleagues to use clinical judgment to address the needs of every patient in the healthcare facility. As Christians, we are urged to love one another. Consequently, I always encourage them to treat patients and their families with love when they are providing care services to them. NUR 513 -Worldview and nursing process personal statement. Treating patients with love give them psychological support, which plays a significant role in their healing process. According to Wade et al (2018), psychological support improves patient outcomes of patients with PPTD and depression. Additionally, delivering psychological support to patients through non-expert staff improves the level of the patient’s outcome (Wade et al, 2018).

Being a Christian I treat others how I would like them to treat me. Thus, I treat patients’ personal details as private and confidential. According to Epstein and Turner (2015), nursing practitioners should treat the details of their patients as confidential. Besides, I keep all relevant information provided by the patients in the hospital’s database for easy retrieval and future reference. Thus, patients get the best treatment since their records serve as a point of reference throughout the treatment process NUR 513 -Worldview and nursing process personal statement. According to Mathioudakis (2016), the proper keeping of clinical records enhances the delivery of quality healthcare services and forms an integral part of good professional practice. More so, both electronic and paper clinical record keeping support continuity of healthcare delivery either by same or different healthcare professionals, thus enhancing the quality of care and overall patient outcomes (Mathioudakis, 2016).

Also, I believe it is my duty as a nurse executive to educate patients and their families about a particular disease and its management plan. Educating patients to improve their outcomes significantly. According to Wade et al (2018), engaging patients and therapeutic communication improve their outcomes. Finally, I strive to observe positive healthy behaviors as a committed nurse executive and a Christian. This practice enables me to provide better healthcare services to my clients, thus improving overall quality and patients’ outcomes.

Connection and similarities between my personal philosophy of practice and approach to patient care and the Selfless Caring of Theory Commitment

My philosophy of practice and approach to patient care are in line with the Selfless Caring of Theory Commitment. This theory holds that the integral character of nurse professionals play a significant role in determining the quality of health care services, which are offered to individual, family, or groups of people in the community (Gogola, 2018). In other words, it emphasizes on the adherence to the required features. Furthermore, this theory views commitment as the key to the fulfillment of one’s duties in the nursing profession (Alligood, 2017) NUR 513 -Worldview and nursing process personal statement. Nurses are emotionally bound to offer efficient, safe ethical, and selfless care to their patients if they are committed to their duties (Jiang, 2016). Nurses are dedicated to helping those in need irrespective of their social, political, and cultural status (Drahošová & Jarošová, 2016). Their commitment enables them to act in the best interest of their patients.

Similarities exist between the Selfless Caring of Theory Commitment and my philosophy of practice and approach to patient care. First, both of them consider committed nurses as those professionals who are willing to offer care services to people in need regardless of time. Time should not limit a committed nurse from helping a person who is in need (Jafaraghaee et al, 2017). Additionally, both of them perceive a committed nurse as an expert who should be willing to work during special holidays or during their off days if need be. Secondly, both of them view nursing as a calling, which requires commitment or dedication to one’s duties. Unlike other careers where individuals just focus on remaining on the payroll, nurses are interested in helping those in need. Nurse executives should perform their duties beyond expectations despite the challenges that they might face. Thirdly, my philosophy and this theory consider a committed nurse as a person who considers the patients as a valuable human being who are in need of selfless nursing care. Finally, both of them view nursing as a career, which is outcome-based. In other words, nurses focus on providing the best quality to the patients, thus improving their outcomes NUR 513 -Worldview and nursing process personal statement.

This nursing theory reinforces my approach to care. It triggers me to dedicate all my energy to delivering quality care to the patients without discriminating them. In other words, I have become selfless and dedicated towards giving the best services to the patients, thus improving overall patient outcomes.

An example and how Christian worldview and the Selfless Caring of Theory Commitment could assist me in resolving this issue

After working for the required hours in the healthcare facility, a 25 years old patient was brought in. She was having heavy vaginal bleeding and tissues were coming from her vagina. Additionally, she was complaining of severe abdominal pain or cramping and severe back pain. My time was up in the clinic and I was supposed to go home and have some rest, which I did after directing the nurse on duty to attend to her immediately. Christian worldview and the Selfless Caring of Theory Commitment could assist me in resolving this issue. I was supposed to view the patient as a human being who was in need of my services. As a Christian, I was supposed to be compassionate and attend to her despite my time is over NUR 513 -Worldview and nursing process personal statement. On the other hand, the Selfless Caring of Theory Commitment urges for dedication to a nursing career and the engagement of the practitioners to their duties (Dempsey & Reilly, 2016). Therefore, I could have considered my career as a calling and remained in the healthcare facility until the patient was attended to.

The role of the Christian worldview and the Selfless Caring of Theory Commitment to further developing my future practice

Both the Christian worldview and the Selfless Caring of Theory Commitment play a significant role in assisting me to develop my future practice further. They will guide me towards becoming more dedicated to my duties in the healthcare facility. Consequently, I will be able to attend to all patients who are in need of my services irrespective of time. Additionally, I will be committed to learn new techniques and acquire more knowledge and skills in my profession, to enhance the delivery of care services to the patients. NUR 513 -Worldview and nursing process personal statement According to Brasaitė et al (2016), knowledge of nurses about patients’ safety determines the quality of healthcare services offered.

The State of Practice for Nurse Practitioners in North Carolina: Restricted Practice Requiring Collaborative Agreements with a Supervising Physician

North Carolina is one of the states that has restricted practice for nurse practitioners (NP). This means that the NP can only practice under the direction and constant supervision of a physician in a collaborative agreement. The NP is restricted in at least one aspect of practice and full practice authority is non-existent (NCBON, 2020; NCNA, 2020; Harkey et al., 2017). This state of affairs however goes against available evidence that shows that NPs are as efficient and able as physicians in providing treatment to patients suffering from various ailments. As such, there is no reason why North Carolina NPs should not be granted full practice authority (FPA) or practice autonomy (Harkey et al., 2017) The State of Practice for Nurse Practitioners in North Carolina.

The Nurse Practice Act in North Carolina also requires that a NP have a collaborative practice agreement governing prescription by the NP. This agreement specifies all the drugs that the NP is allowed to prescribe. She can therefore only prescribe according to the agreement with the supervising physician. If she has to prescribe a drug not in the agreement, the physician must authorise it (NCBON, 2020). For the same reasons given above, there is no evidence to suggest that NPs cannot safely prescribe medications autonomously. As a matter of fact, almost half of the states have now granted FPA to NPs and they are autonomously prescribing without any physician supervision.

North Carolina legislation allows NPs to prescribe drugs that are approved by the Food and Drug Administration as well as schedule II-V of the controlled substances. However, this can only happen under the supervision of the collaborating physician and in accordance with their collaborative practice agreement (NCBON, 2020) The State of Practice for Nurse Practitioners in North Carolina. This should not be the case, however, because NPs are highly educated to postgraduate levels in including in advanced pharmacology. They are therefore qualified, fit, and safe to prescribe independently.

The collaborative approach to treating rashes, for instance, requires that the NP only prescribes a limited range of medications specified in the collaborative practice agreement between them and the physician. As has been argued above, however, the NP should not practice with a collaborator because there is no evidence that supports the need for this. NPs are highly educated, trained, and adequately tested for safe practice (Harkey et al., 2017) The State of Practice for Nurse Practitioners in North Carolina.

Spirituality, Religion, and Healthcare: A Reflective Stance on the Role of Spirituality in Nursing Practice and Patient Care

Spirituality, Religion, and Healthcare: A Reflective Stance on the Role of Spirituality in Nursing Practice and Patient Care

The advent of scientific medical practice has without doubt had an important impact on the perception of the significance of spirituality in healing. Scientism, which is the belief that every aspect of human life including illness and disease can be explained by scientific phenomena, is responsible for this. However, the reality that cannot be denied is that the spiritual aspect of the human person is as important as the biological aspect with regard to the treatment of disease. It is a known and accepted fact that spirituality and religion are helpful in assisting patients find some meaning at their moment of suffering (Puchalski, 2001) Spirituality Reflective Journal Paper. That spirituality has a major contribution to health and wellness is manifested by the acceptance in nursing practice of holistic patient care. A large base of evidence is available to support this practice which involves taking care of the patient in terms of the physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual aspects. This paper is therefore a reflection of the importance of religion and spirituality in current nursing practice.

Mauk and Schmidt (2004) opine that health and spirituality have had an important nexus for a very long time. To begin with, the Christian Holy Bible is full of anecdotes cataloguing how the Prophets and later on Jesus himself used their intercessory powers with God to heal the sick and the infirm. For instance, when the Israelites were wandering in the wilderness and being bitten by wild snakes, God instructed Moses to erect a pole with the statue of a serpent. When a person who had been bitten by a poisonous snake looked at this statue, they immediately got healed and the effects of the poison were neutralised. At Capernaum, Jesus famously healed a paralytic man in front of a mass of people just by laying hands on them (White, 2011) Spirituality Reflective Journal Paper. These instances in the Christian narrative show that spirituality has been associated with healing for as long as the world has been in existence. Furthermore, God the creator has all the powers to heal any individual of their sickness and restore them back to health. How he does this has never been explained by science, since only the results of his work are visible but not the way he does it. This explains the categorisation of spiritual healings as miraculous acts or healing by God’s miracles (Orr, 2015).

The Christian narrative holds that most of the human suffering through disease and illness result from the indiscretion and sinful ways of the human being. This happens when we forget that God exists and that we should always do what honors his name and brings good to the world. We thus tend to be forgetful about God when we are in good health, preferring to do worldly things because we can. However, when we get sick, we suddenly remember that God exists and has the power to heal and restore health. Luckily, God who is all-loving and forgiving does not discriminate and always welcomes the repentance of such a person as he gifts them with healing (White, 2011). This is the spiritual reality that every practising nurse needs to have in mind at all times. Even as we treat patients of their physical illness, nurses should remember the power of the spiritual in helping to restore the health of their patients. This they can achieve by harnessing the spirituality of their patients and encouraging them to have faith in their God who is the ultimate healer Spirituality Reflective Journal Paper. She should be clear that as human beings, nurses and physicians are just doing God’s work and leaving the actual healing to God. Theirs is to treat, but healing remains a prerogative of God the Almighty.

The evidence that spirituality and health have been linked for a long time is still very apparent, for instance, in traditional complementary medicine. Cultures that place a lot of emphasis on traditional medicine such as in China and India have been known to be deeply spiritual (Mauk & Schmidt, 2004). This is because traditional medicine in these places is not only reliant on physical factors for healing, but also on spirituality and belief in a higher being. By invoking the power of spirituality in influencing the physical processes in the human body, these traditional medical practices have been known to be effective over the centuries in producing tangible results in terms of the healing of disease. The mantra of these therapies has of course always been a focus on the nexus bringing together the mind, the body, and the spirit. The important recognition here is that treating the body alone is not enough to achieve complete healing of the human being from disease. But by bringing in the spiritual aspect, holistic healing is achieved. Spirituality Reflective Journal Paper.

As professional nurses, the guiding principle has always been caring for patients with compassion. What this means is that nurses have to share the suffering of their patients, even as they care for them (Orr, 2015; Puchalski, 2001). They have to feel how their patients are feeling by placing themselves in their shoes and being empathetic. Always encouraging the patients to have faith in God or a higher power does great miracles in complementing the physical treatments given to patients Spirituality Reflective Journal Paper. This is why holistic nursing practice is important with regard to the role of spirituality and religion in the restoration of health.
