Module 2 Unit 1: Developing Capacity with Collaboration
Component A
Using the information provided in Readings 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 along with your Learning from Module 1 develop the following:
An excerpt from a basic teacher position description that explains the attitudes, predispositions and skills a teacher would need to have with collaboration at your school (one half page).
A career trajectory showing what a teacher would need to know and be able to do with respect to collaboration at the early, mid career and advanced career level. Show the kind of leadership skills associated with the advanced career level (see readings for details) (max- one page).
A discussion about feedback that would be employed for teachers with respect to collaboration. Use your knowledge of the attitudes/predispositions and skills to describe the kind of feedback tool you would use and what it would include. You do not have to create a tool but you should be able to describe it and the key areas of focus (max-one page).
Given your knowledge of collaboration, the position description excerpt, trajectory, and feedback describe the specific performance criteria for passing through the levels the career trajectory. (max-one page)
Given that the school has become committed to collaboration in demonstrable ways describe briefly how decisions would be made collaboratively across the school (max-one page). Explain the impact/process for individuals and the school overall.
Component B
Develop a PowerPoint presentation that describes the content of a half-day workshop on collaborative problem solving.
Use your list of focus areas, knowledge of effective PD and the steps in the “It’s all in the Design” article to build a PowerPoint™ presentation in one of two areas, either personal skill building for collaboration as described on your personal skills scale or collaborative meeting process.
1. Write a brief description of the overall professional development sequence, including the position of your half day within it (for expediency it can be included in the slide show as part of your presentation). Remember, the focus of the session will be on the skills required for collaboration or meeting process. This is important as it shows your sense of the scope, depth and sequence of work required of full program as well as the way PD fits within your broader embedded design. The expectation is that your half day is part of that sequence not all of it.
2. A slide/s containing a statement of purpose.
3. A slide/s describing the goals and objectives.
4. A slide/s describing the schedule for the day that includes the training content (step 4).
5. Slides describing the instructional activities (step 5- this is the core of your presentation and should describe the activities as if you were actually using the slides to deliver them in the PD session). Your activities must include significant skill development in the areas required for successful collaboration and if you select meeting process as your topic an activity that involves the actual conduct of a meeting by the participants in the PD session. Remember you only have half a day. Ensure that your slide/s describing the scenario have enough detail for participants to practice skills demonstrating the application of professional knowledge and the use of pattern language. How you present these activities is up to you. For additional information and ideas about activities undertake a Google™ search in those areas described in the “It’s all in the design” reading (e.g., small group work, simulation, role-playing, case studies). Feel free to draw on your own experience here. You are not limited to the ideas described in the subject readings. Slides that describe each of the workshop activities should permit a staff member to understand what they are expected to do and learn. Each workshop activity should include: a description of the task, a statement describing the expected outcome of the activity and a set of steps describing what participants are expected to do. These elements should be described in your slides for each activity. Make sure that the professional development aligns with your embedded design described in Component A. Make sure that your input provides sufficient learning opportunity for and is aligned with the expected activity and skill building by the participants
6. Prepare a one page-(bullet point format) handout for participants (for expediency it can be included in the slide show as part of your presentation).
7. Slide/s describing the Harvard One Minute feedback process and a follow-up activity used to gather information about the reaction of the participants. This is provided in the Assignment 2 resources folder.
8. Information taken from readings should be referenced throughout (on each slide). When developing your slides put yourself in the position of a trainer actually delivering this presentation. Ask yourself whether the directions, the information and activities are clear enough to be understood by a participant.
Content of your response:
The content of the response should represent your analysis of the readings and your personal experience in the field. For Component A you will submit a Word document. Component B will be submission of a PDF copy of your Powerpoint using the “notes” pages format

HI5033 – Individual Assignment Instructions Academic Integrity Information Holmes Institute is committed to ensuring and upholding academic integrity. All assessment must comply with academic integrity guidelines. Important academic integrity breaches include plagiarism, collusion, copying, impersonation, contract cheating, data fabrication and falsification. Please learn about academic integrity and consult your teachers with any questions. Violating academic integrity is serious and punishable by penalties that range from deduction of marks, failure of the assessment task or unit involved, suspension of course enrolment, or cancellation of course enrolment. Format Instructions • Most assessments must be in MS Word format with no spacing, 11-pt Calibri font and at least 2cm margins on all four sides with appropriate section headings and page numbers. • You must name your file with the Unit Code and Student ID (e.g. “HI5003- GWA1995”). • Check that you submit the correct document as special consideration is not granted if you make a mistake. • Student ID needs to be indicated on the cover page. Penalties • All work must be submitted on Blackboard by the due date and time along with a completed Assessment Cover Page. Late penalties apply. • Reference sources must be cited in the text of the report, and listed appropriately at the end in a reference list using Holmes Institute Adapted Harvard Referencing. Penalties are associated with incorrect citation and referencing. HI5033 – Individual Assignment Assignment Description This assessment requires individual completion. Students are expected to complete a critique and conduct a literature review to discuss a contemporary issue relating to Database Systems and identify appropriate approaches to address this issue. The topic is “Mobile Database Management Systems: Ensuring Data Security and Efficiency”. Each student is required to search the literature and find a minimum of ten (10) academic research papers (references) related to this topic. Subsequently, the student must critically analyse the selected references and provide an in-depth discussion on how they reflect the topic. This assessment is worth 40% of the unit’s grade and is a major assessment. Students are advised to begin working on this assessment as soon as possible. There is only one deliverable for this assessment Deliverable Weight Week Due Final Submission 40% Week 12 The day and time of the due week that the assessment must be submitted will be announced by your unit coordinator. Deliverable Description You need to submit the final version of your assignment in Week 12. The structure of the final report consists of 4 sections as follows: • Introduction State the purpose and objectives of the report. • Discussion Discuss the references, and critically analyse them and discuss how they reflect the topic. • Conclusion Summarize your findings by emphasizing the key points of the report. • Reference Provide the list of references following the Adapted Harvard Referencing style. Your literature review should present the current state of knowledge in the specific area of the topic, and it should have a narrative that flows smoothly from one paragraph to the next. Additionally, the final submission should consist of no fewer than 2,500 words. HI5033 – Individual Assignment Student Assessment Citation and Referencing Rules Adapted Harvard Referencing Rules Holmes has implemented a revised Harvard approach to referencing. The following rules apply: 1. Reference sources in assignments are limited to sources that provide full-text access to the source’s content for lecturers and markers. 2. The reference list must be located on a separate page at the end of the essay and titled: “References”. 3. The reference list must include the details of all the in-text citations, arranged A-Z alphabetically by author surname with each reference numbered (1 to 10, etc.) and each reference MUST include a hyperlink to the full text of the cited reference source. For example: 1. Hawking, P., McCarthy, B. & Stein, A. 2004. Second Wave ERP Education, Journal of Information Systems Education, Fall, http://jise.org/Volume15/n3/JISEv15n3p327.pdf 4. All assignments must include in-text citations to the listed references. These must include the surname of the author/s or name of the authoring body, year of publication, page number of the content, and paragraph where the content can be found. For example, “The company decided to implement an enterprise-wide data warehouse business intelligence strategies (Hawking et al., 2004, p3(4)).” Non-Adherence to Referencing Rules Where students do not follow the above rules: 1. For students who submit assignments that do not comply with the rules, a 10% penalty will be applied. 2. As per the Student Handbook, late penalties will apply each day after the student/s has been notified of the due date. 3. Students who comply with rules and the citations are “fake” may be reported for academic misconduct. HI5033 – Individual Assignment Submission Guidelines Your document should be a single MS Word or OpenOffice document containing your report. Do not use PDF as a submission format. All submissions will be submitted through the safeAssign facility in Blackboard. Submission boxes linked to SafeAssign will be set up in the Units Blackboard Shell. Assignments not submitted through these submission links will not be considered. Submissions must be made by the due date and time (which will be in the session detailed above) and determined by your Unit coordinator. Submissions made after the due date and time will be penalized per day late (including weekend days) according to Holmes Institute policies. The SafeAssign similarity score will be used in determining the level, if any, of plagiarism. SafeAssign will check conference web-sites, Journal articles, the Web and your own class members submissions for plagiarism. You can see your SafeAssign similarity score (or match) when you submit your assignment to the appropriate drop-box. If this is a concern you will have a chance to change your assignment and resubmit. However, re-submission is only allowed prior to the submission due date and time. After the due date and time have elapsed your assignment will be graded as late. Submitted assignments that indicate a high level of plagiarism will be penalized according to the Holmes Academic Misconduct policy, there will be no exceptions. Thus, plan early and submit early to take advantage of the re-submission feature. You can make multiple submissions, but please remember we grade only the last submission, and the date and time you submitted will be taken from that submission.
