Unit 4 Project: Curate! Curate!: Create a Virtual Art Exhibition DUE: Jan. 7 15 points / 15% of final grade You will submit in two parts: One component (the Curator Statement and Exhibition Link) will be turned in via your group’s discussion board; the other component (a Written Response to question prompts) will be turned in via the submission link in Canvas. “A curator builds and cares for a museum’s collection. They also conduct research, develop exhibitions, recommend purchases, write catalogue essays, and work with the rest of the museum staff to engage the public. Try on the role of curator by creating an exhibition in the Google Art Project!”
    http://www.googleartproject.com
    .
    What to Do
EXPLORE AND FAMILIARIZE For this assignment you will become a virtual curator of an art exhibition using the Google Art Project, a part of the Google Cultural Institute, a project in which hundreds of museums, cultural institutions, and archives have partnered with Google to host the world’s cultural treasures online. The site is available here:
    http://www.googleartproject.com
    or
    http://www.google.com/culturalinstitute/project/art-project
. Go to the website and familiarize yourself with its capabilities.
CREATE AN ENGAGING THEME AND NOTE PARAMETERS After spending time exploring the available artworks and institutions, you are required to choose 7-10 artworks for your virtual exhibition. There are a variety of ways you could approach creating your exhibition. You can approach it by style, subject matter, relation to historical events, artists’ use of material and form. It can be a simple approach (i.e. Springtime), or something more complex (The Cycle of Life or Good and Evil). Additionally, you can refer to the thematic chapters in Part 4 of your textbook if you need further ideas. How are the works connected? Do not simply choose artworks at random. Rather, determine how the works you choose have similarities or work together visually or thematically. Think about the order in which you select works for display. Anything on the Google Art Project website is available to be chosen (there are hundreds of museums, cultural institutions, and archives to browse). However, there are three parameters set: You must choose works from at least three different venues/institutions. You must choose works from at least two different cultures or periods in art history. You must choose works by at least four different artists.
ANSWER THE INSTRUCTION PROMPTS AND SUBMIT YOUR WORK (in two parts, see page 2).
FINALLY, VIEW YOUR FELLOW GROUP-MATES’ WORK. You are NOT required to respond to your group-mate posts for this final assignment. Of course, everyone enjoys feedback, so feel free to engage with others!
INSTRUCTIONS FOR CURATOR’S STATEMENT AND EXHIBITION LINK (To be shared with your group via the group discussion board.)
Curator’s Statement and Exhibition Title: Share with your group’s discussion board on CANVAS a Curator’s Statement of approximately 150-200 words. In your statement, you will explain your theme. Be enthusiastic, leaving your peers with the desire to go “visit” your exhibition. Include an exhibition title. Give them insight into your choices and thought process. Please go beyond: “I picked them because I liked them” – this type of brief explanation will result in a reduced grade.
Exhibition Link: Instructions on how to obtain the URL link to your exhibition are discussed at the end of this document in the section titled “How to Use the Google Art Project Website.” Please ensure your exhibition is viewable by the public (and not private or inaccessible).
INSTRUCTIONS FOR WRITTEN RESPONSE (To be submitted directly to the instructor via the assignment link in CANVAS.) Address all the following questions in a response of approximately 1.5-2 pages in length. Use 12-point font and double-space. Proofread before submission. You must use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling. Submit in a Word document (.doc, .docx or .rtf).
Identify one specific work from your collection (artist name if known, title if available, time period or date, medium, dimensions) and discuss how it exemplifies your chosen theme.
Discuss the media used and the artist’s technique and application of materials. Is the object two- or three-dimensional? What limitations, if any, might the chosen medium create for the artist? Here are some following questions to consider, depending on the type of media employed:
Painting: How did the type of paint affect the strokes the artist could make? Was it fresco, oil, tempera, or watercolor? Was it a fast-drying paint that allowed little time to make changes? What kind of textures and lines was the artist able to create with this medium? Does it lend a shiny or flat look? How durable was the medium? Does the work look the same today as when the artist painted it?
Drawing: Consider the materials utilized: metal point, chalk, charcoal, graphite, crayon, pastel, ink, and wash. Is the artist able to make controlled strokes with this medium? Would the tool create a thick or thin, defined or blurred line? Was the drawing intended to be a work of art in itself, or is it a study for another work, a peek into the artist’s creative process?
Printmaking: What is the process the artist undertook to create this work? Did he or she need to carve or etch? Did the medium require a steady hand? Strength or patience?
Photography: What is the process the artist undertook to create this work? Is it an example of early photography or more recent processes? Is it created from digital, film or other processes? Is it a documentary? Do you consider it staged?
Sculpture: Is the sculpture high or low relief, or can we see it in the round? What challenges did the material present to the artist? Was the work created through a subtractive process (beginning with a large mass of the medium and taking away from it to create form), or an additive one? What tools did the artist use to create the form? If the form is human, is it life-size? Is the work created from constructing or assembling things together?
Craft: Is it made of fiber, textile, ceramics, metalwork, glass, etc? Is the art object considered craft or fine art? Why? Can works of fine art be utilitarian, in your opinion?
Alternative media and processes: Is your work a video, sound art, installation, a work of conceptual art or even a performance piece? How does it differ from traditional works of art? Choose and briefly discuss how any one following ways of analyzing an artwork can be applied to the chosen work: (see chapter 1.10, Content and Analysis, of your textbook)
Iconographic analysis: Are there things in the work that you can interpret as signs or symbols? For example, is there anything that suggests a religious meaning, or indicates the social status of somebody depicted in the work?
Biographical analysis: Does information about the life of the artist help you to interpret the work? You may do research online to answer questions about an artist’s life and works.
Feminist analysis: Is the role of women in the artwork important? Is the artist commenting on the experience of women in society? Is the artist a woman?
Contextual analysis: Would you understand the work better if you knew something about the history of the era in which it was created, or about religious, political, economic, and social issues that influenced its creation?
Additionally, in what period of art or historical context was this particular artwork made? (see Part 3 of your textbook for help in identifying artistic periods).
Finally, select and identify a separate work from your collection that is from a different historical context or culture. Compare and contrast the two works. In your comparison, you may consider what the artworks look like and what they are communicating. How is your theme reflected similarly or differently in these two works? What do the works tell you about each culture’s attitudes and/or beliefs? What does your comparison reveal to you about the artworks that you had not considered before?
How to Use the Google Art Project Website
In order to save images and view other user galleries you must login with a Google email (gmail). Click the Sign In button at the upper right of the screen. Most USF email accounts are already linked to Google and can be used (try using your USF email address within the Google Art Project sign in page). If this doesn’t work, you must create a new Gmail account if you do not already have one.
Google Chrome has been found to be the best browser for this project. Other browsers (Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc) may not fully support all aspects of the
    www.googleartproject.com
    website.
Click Artworks in the top menu bar. Explore and search using various criteria (e.g. collection, medium, date, keyword, etc.).
When you find an artwork of interest, click the Add Item icon located above the image. This will save the image to your user profile. Continue finding artworks of interest and adding them to your profile.
Click My Galleries (upper right hand side of the screen) to manage your collection. Then, create a “New gallery from saved items”. Add a title to your gallery.
After you have created a new gallery in step #5, ensure that your gallery is PUBLIC! Click “private gallery”

Choose to write about either Georgia O’Keeffe’s RAM’S HEAD, WHITE HOLLYHOCK-HILLS, 1935, or Salvador Dali’s THE PERSISTENCE OF MEMORY. Name your chosen work. Describe how the elements of the painting are discernible in this work. What feelings do you receive from this painting? Explain. What is the author trying to say to you? Explain. OR Raphael’s THE ALBA MADONNA, 1510, is a later Renaissance work. Which of our themes of humanism, individualism, and scientific naturalism do you see in this painting? Do you see much perspective or chiaroscuro in this piece? If so, describe. Or Write a letter to either Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent van Gogh, or Pablo Picasso and discuss his signature work(s). Describe what you feel, think and like about this work. Ask any questions about this author’s intent. OR Compare Picasso’s Guernica to Goya’s THE THIRD OF MAY 1808, 1814. Both paintings deal with the subject of war and man’s brutality to man. Even though these artists painted these pictures about one hundred years apart, how are they similar? And, both artists painted in different styles and contexts, so how are these paintings different?

I am writing a character letter to judge asking leniency for convicted person. I need assistance to make my letter to sound more persuasive before judge.
I am writing this letter given my dear friends, Junior Kamara. I want to bring to your light the kind of person that he is despite the grave allegations that he has faced in recent time. I have known him for the past nine years as a friend. He is a true gentleman and is always true to his words. His enthusiasm has led to many good works in society.
I am very aware of the charges that he is facing and the consequences of those but looking at the current situation of the bereaved family, and I would like to plead for leniency. He is a well-mannered gentleman, and I am sure he will learn from this experience and will not think of repeating it.
I hope you look into this matter and consider this character reference letter before passing on any verdict. Junior Kamara will strive to make amends, and I am sure we will get to see his good works bringing fruitful results to our society again.
    Thank you,
    Omar

Introduction One study showed that neural processing between the left and right hemispheres occurred primarily along the corpus callosum (Di Lorenzo, Yonner, & Marks 1978). In this study, the brain activity of fifty-seven participants, including 29 males and 28 women, was recorded over a period of three months. This sample of participants included bipolars and normal controls. The procedure for the study included training, testing and verification stages. Importantly, the verification stage involved the use of a novel and revolutionary brain imaging method which hasn’t previously been used with this population. Methods We used the statistical technique developed by Tanner & Watney (2019, p. 19) to analyze the functional magnetic resonance imaging data.
