    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

    [>Criminal homework help](https://www.sweetstudy.com/fields/law-criminal)

Your probation chief wants to implement empathy training. The chief believes that the initiative will improve probation and community relations and will assist probation officers in seeing offenders more as human beings and less as simply the sum total of their offenses. Empathy allows officers to better understand the "why" behind behavior and can help probation officers improve their interactions with people during encounters with probationers.

As a part of this initiative, you are responsible for selecting a criminology theory covered in your textbook and preparing a PowerPoint presentation to help educate your colleagues about different causes of crime.

_**Note:**_ You may select any criminology theory covered in your textbook with one exception: You may _not_ select conflict theory, as this theory is provided to you as an example.

    ## **Preparation**

Consult these support resources to help guide you in developing your presentation:

    – [Criminology Theory Presentation Template [PPTX]](https://canvas.strayer.edu/courses/20304/files/12300584?wrap=1) [Download Criminology Theory Presentation Template [PPTX]](https://canvas.strayer.edu/courses/20304/files/12300584/download?download_frd=1): This resource is provided for you as a guide only. Your presentation may vary from the template as long as you address the assignment requirements.
    – [Sample Criminology Theory Presentation [PPTX]](https://canvas.strayer.edu/courses/20304/files/12300604?wrap=1) [Download Sample Criminology Theory Presentation [PPTX]](https://canvas.strayer.edu/courses/20304/files/12300604/download?download_frd=1): This resource is provided to give you an idea of what an effective presentation looks like. Once again, your presentation does not have to look exactly like the sample. This is provided only to stimulate your thinking as you get started on developing your presentation.

You may also review these resources:

    – [Creating Effective PresentationsLinks to an external site.](https://www.linkedin.com/checkpoint/enterprise/login/57878161?pathWildcard=57878161&application=learning&redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Elinkedin%2Ecom%2Flearning%2Foffice-2016-for-educators%2Fcreate-effective-presentations%3Fu%3D57878161) (3 mins).
    – [Strayer University Library: Microsoft PowerPoint](https://library.strayer.edu/ppt).
    – [Strayer Writing Standards: Slideshow](https://library.strayer.edu/sws/slideshow).

    ## **Instructions**

Create a 10–12 slide PowerPoint presentation in which you:

    1. Explain your selected criminology theory, including its strengths and criticisms.
    – Do _**not**_ select conflict theory, as this theory is covered in the sample presentation provided.
    2. Identify the major theorists behind this theory and explain their role in its development.
    3. Determine how the selected theory may influence a police officer’s response to criminal and/or deviant behaviors. Support the determination with specific evidence.
    4. Describe de-escalation techniques and community probation strategies consistent with your chosen theory and empathy training.
    5. Develop a presentation on the selected criminology theory that is succinct, engaging, and informative:
    – Consider including images, graphics, or short video snippets in your presentation to increase audience engagement.
    – Provide additional detail in the speaker notes in PowerPoint about what you would say if you actually had to deliver your presentation.
    6. Use at least three sources to support your writing. Choose sources that are credible, relevant, and appropriate. You may include your textbook. Cite each source at least once within your assignment. For help with research, writing, and citation, access the [library](https://library.strayer.edu/home) or review [library guides](https://library.strayer.edu/index).

Your presentation must include a title slide and a source list slide. These slides do not count towards the total number of slides in the presentation.

This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). The library is your home for SWS assistance, including citations and formatting. Please refer to the [Library site](https://library.strayer.edu/sws) for all support. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is:

    – Review the fundamental concepts and theories of criminology.

The title says it all. You have covered a lot of ground this term and gained several tools for
understanding personality in self and others. This is not a paper you write on a specific chapter, but
rather your synthesis of the entire course. Bring together your thoughts on all we have studied and
consider applications to our mission of social change.

Review Chapter 15 in your course text.
Reflect on your coursework this term, considering your beliefs about personality and the self now that
you have studied many theories and approaches to understanding them.

In everyday usage, the terms self and personality are sometimes used interchangeably to refer to “who
we are.” In the field of psychology, they are related but separate concepts. Personality refers to the
ways individuals think, feel, and behave, and especially their patterns in doing so (Funder, 2024). The
self consists of the information that we have and know about ourselves—our self-knowledge.
Personality traits are one component of this knowledge. Others include where and how we fit in, our
    self-esteem, and our self-efficacy.

For this week’s Discussion, you again have the opportunity to develop your own Discussion question
to ask the class, based on what interests you most about the concept of the self. What you find
interesting can’t be right or wrong, but your grade will be based on the degree to which you are able
to produce a question that promotes critical thinking.

you in how to write a question for this week’s Discussion post that can generate critical thinking
    in your colleagues.
Review Chapter 14 of your course text and consider a question you could ask your colleagues that
promotes critical thinking about some aspect of the self.

Drawing from the information you read about in Chapter 14, develop an original discussion question
that promotes critical thinking for your colleagues to respond to.

Your initial post must provide a rationale or background for the question as illustrated in the example
provided in Learning Activity—Developing Discussion Questions That Promote Critical Thinking. Put your
question in the first line of your post, and put your supporting text below that in your post.

Note: Support your post(s) with evidence from at least one Learning Resource. Be sure to identify
what source(s) you used, both in the body of your post(s) and with a reference at the end of your
    post(s).

to ask the class, based on what interests you most about the concept of the self. What you find
interesting can’t be right or wrong, but your grade will be based on the degree to which you are able
to produce a question that promotes critical thinking.

Review the resource Developing Discussion Questions That Promote Critical Thinking (https://cdn-
media.waldenu.edu/2dett4d/Walden/PSYC/3014/DD/scormcontent/index.html#) . This activity will guide
you in how to write a question for this week’s Discussion post that can generate critical thinking
    in your colleagues.

Be sure to identify
what source(s) you used, both in the body of your post(s) and with a reference at the end of your
    post(s).

Note: You are required to create a thread for your initial discussion post before you will be able
to view other colleagues' postings in this forum.

Note: For this Discussion you are required to respond to two colleagues.

Be sure to review the Learning Resources before completing this activity.
