    Preparing the Discussion

Follow these guidelines when completing each component of the discussion. Contact your course faculty if you have questions.

    **General Instructions**

The purpose of this discussion is to examine disease processes associated with a client scenario following the instructions below. The course faculty will reveal the disease process at the end of the week.

**Step 1:** Carefully read the following client scenario:

_Wilbur, a 55-year-old male client, presents to the NP complaining of a flat, purple-colored rash on his back and chest. Wilbur states the rash is not painful or itchy. He states it has been there for months, and he has also developed a white coating on his tongue and has “been sick a lot lately.”_

**Step 2:** Identify your assigned disease process from the chart below. Your assigned disease process is based on the first letter of your last name.

**Last NameDisease Process** A – H Condition: Allergies I – P Condition: Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)

Q – Z Condition: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)

**Step 3:** Answer the discussion prompts below with explanation and detail, providing complete references for all citations.

**Step 4:** Reply to a peer with a different assigned condition.

    Include the following sections:

    1. **Application of Course Knowledge:** Answer all questions/criteria with explanations and detail.

    1. Discuss the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms of your assigned disease process. Which clinical manifestations observed in Wilbur’s case may be explained by the pathophysiological mechanisms?
    2. Analyze Wilbur’s clinical manifestations as they relate to your assigned disease process. Do these findings support your assigned disease process? Why or why not?
    3. Identify and justify the diagnostic tests (including labs, imaging, or other diagnostic tests) that may be most appropriate for investigating your assigned disease process as the diagnosis for Wilbur. Discuss anticipated test results.
    4. Compare and contrast your response with a peer assigned to a different condition. Does their condition fit Wilbur’s case? Why or why not? Explain your rationale.

    2. **Integration of Evidence:** Integrate relevant scholarly sources as defined by program expectations:

    1. Cite a scholarly source in the initial post.
    2. Cite a scholarly source in one faculty response post.
    3. Cite a scholarly source in one peer post.
    4. Accurately analyze, synthesize, and/or apply principles from evidence with no more than one short quote (15 words or less) for the week.
    5. Include a minimum of two different scholarly sources per week. Cite all references and provide references for all citations.

**3. Engagement in Meaningful Dialogue:** Engage peers and faculty by asking questions and offering new insights, applications, perspectives, information, or implications for practice.

    1. Peer Response: Respond to at least one peer on a topic other than the initially assigned topic.
    2. Faculty Response: Respond to at least one faculty post.
    3. Communicate using respectful, collegial language and terminology appropriate to advanced nursing practice.

    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

    [>Criminal homework help](https://www.sweetstudy.com/fields/law-criminal)

Your probation chief wants to implement empathy training. The chief believes that the initiative will improve probation and community relations and will assist probation officers in seeing offenders more as human beings and less as simply the sum total of their offenses. Empathy allows officers to better understand the "why" behind behavior and can help probation officers improve their interactions with people during encounters with probationers.

As a part of this initiative, you are responsible for selecting a criminology theory covered in your textbook and preparing a PowerPoint presentation to help educate your colleagues about different causes of crime.

_**Note:**_ You may select any criminology theory covered in your textbook with one exception: You may _not_ select conflict theory, as this theory is provided to you as an example.

    ## **Preparation**

Consult these support resources to help guide you in developing your presentation:

    – [Criminology Theory Presentation Template [PPTX]](https://canvas.strayer.edu/courses/20304/files/12300584?wrap=1) [Download Criminology Theory Presentation Template [PPTX]](https://canvas.strayer.edu/courses/20304/files/12300584/download?download_frd=1): This resource is provided for you as a guide only. Your presentation may vary from the template as long as you address the assignment requirements.
    – [Sample Criminology Theory Presentation [PPTX]](https://canvas.strayer.edu/courses/20304/files/12300604?wrap=1) [Download Sample Criminology Theory Presentation [PPTX]](https://canvas.strayer.edu/courses/20304/files/12300604/download?download_frd=1): This resource is provided to give you an idea of what an effective presentation looks like. Once again, your presentation does not have to look exactly like the sample. This is provided only to stimulate your thinking as you get started on developing your presentation.

You may also review these resources:

    – [Creating Effective PresentationsLinks to an external site.](https://www.linkedin.com/checkpoint/enterprise/login/57878161?pathWildcard=57878161&application=learning&redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Elinkedin%2Ecom%2Flearning%2Foffice-2016-for-educators%2Fcreate-effective-presentations%3Fu%3D57878161) (3 mins).
    – [Strayer University Library: Microsoft PowerPoint](https://library.strayer.edu/ppt).
    – [Strayer Writing Standards: Slideshow](https://library.strayer.edu/sws/slideshow).

    ## **Instructions**

Create a 10–12 slide PowerPoint presentation in which you:

    1. Explain your selected criminology theory, including its strengths and criticisms.
    – Do _**not**_ select conflict theory, as this theory is covered in the sample presentation provided.
    2. Identify the major theorists behind this theory and explain their role in its development.
    3. Determine how the selected theory may influence a police officer’s response to criminal and/or deviant behaviors. Support the determination with specific evidence.
    4. Describe de-escalation techniques and community probation strategies consistent with your chosen theory and empathy training.
    5. Develop a presentation on the selected criminology theory that is succinct, engaging, and informative:
    – Consider including images, graphics, or short video snippets in your presentation to increase audience engagement.
    – Provide additional detail in the speaker notes in PowerPoint about what you would say if you actually had to deliver your presentation.
    6. Use at least three sources to support your writing. Choose sources that are credible, relevant, and appropriate. You may include your textbook. Cite each source at least once within your assignment. For help with research, writing, and citation, access the [library](https://library.strayer.edu/home) or review [library guides](https://library.strayer.edu/index).

Your presentation must include a title slide and a source list slide. These slides do not count towards the total number of slides in the presentation.

This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). The library is your home for SWS assistance, including citations and formatting. Please refer to the [Library site](https://library.strayer.edu/sws) for all support. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is:

    – Review the fundamental concepts and theories of criminology.

consider applications to our mission of social change.

Review Chapter 15 in your course text.
Reflect on your coursework this term, considering your beliefs about personality and the self now that
you have studied many theories and approaches to understanding them.

The title says it all. You have covered a lot of ground this term and gained several tools for
understanding personality in self and others. This is not a paper you write on a specific chapter, but
rather your synthesis of the entire course. Bring together your thoughts on all we have studied and
consider applications to our mission of social change.

Review Chapter 15 in your course text.
Reflect on your coursework this term, considering your beliefs about personality and the self now that
you have studied many theories and approaches to understanding them.

In everyday usage, the terms self and personality are sometimes used interchangeably to refer to “who
we are.” In the field of psychology, they are related but separate concepts. Personality refers to the
ways individuals think, feel, and behave, and especially their patterns in doing so (Funder, 2024). The
self consists of the information that we have and know about ourselves—our self-knowledge.
Personality traits are one component of this knowledge. Others include where and how we fit in, our
    self-esteem, and our self-efficacy.

For this week’s Discussion, you again have the opportunity to develop your own Discussion question
to ask the class, based on what interests you most about the concept of the self. What you find
interesting can’t be right or wrong, but your grade will be based on the degree to which you are able
to produce a question that promotes critical thinking.

Review the resource Developing Discussion Questions That Promote Critical Thinking (https://cdn-
media.waldenu.edu/2dett4d/Walden/PSYC/3014/DD/scormcontent/index.html#) . This activity will guide
you in how to write a question for this week’s Discussion post that can generate critical thinking
    in your colleagues.
Review Chapter 14 of your course text and consider a question you could ask your colleagues that
promotes critical thinking about some aspect of the self.

Drawing from the information you read about in Chapter 14, develop an original discussion question
that promotes critical thinking for your colleagues to respond to.

Your initial post must provide a rationale or background for the question as illustrated in the example
provided in Learning Activity—Developing Discussion Questions That Promote Critical Thinking. Put your
question in the first line of your post, and put your supporting text below that in your post.

Note: Support your post(s) with evidence from at least one Learning Resource. Be sure to identify
what source(s) you used, both in the body of your post(s) and with a reference at the end of your
    post(s).

Note: You are required to create a thread for your initial discussion post before you will be able
to view other colleagues' postings in this forum.

Note: For this Discussion you are required to respond to two colleagues.

we are.” In the field of psychology, they are related but separate concepts.

Be sure to review the Learning Resources before completing this activity.

**Your probationary period at the Cosmo K Manufacturing Group continues. Your supervisor, Gerry, assigns you a project each week to test your competence in finance.**

**The company is considering the addition of a new office machine that will perform many of the tasks now performed manually. For this week's task, Gerry has given you the responsibility of evaluating the cash flows associated with the new machine. He has requested the report to be delivered within the week.**

    ### **Evaluation of a New Office Machine**

**The Cosmo K Manufacturing Group currently has sales of $1,400,000 per year. It is considering the addition of a new office machine, which will not result in any new sales but will save the company $105,500 before taxes per year over its 5-year useful life. The machine will cost $300,000 plus another $12,000 for installation. The new asset will be depreciated using a modified accelerated cost recovery system (MACRS) 5-year class life. It will be sold for $25,000 at the end of 5 years. Additional inventory of $11,000 will be required for parts and maintenance of the new machine. The company evaluates all projects at this risk level using an 11.99% required rate of return. The tax rate is expected to be 35% for the next decade.**

    ### **Tasks:**

    **Answer the following questions:**

    – **What is the total investment in the new machine at time = 0 (T = 0)?**
    – **What are the net cash flows in each of the 5 years of operation?**
    – **What are the terminal cash flows from the sale of the asset at the end of 5 years?**
    – **What is the NPV of the investment?**
    – **What is the IRR of the investment?**
    – **What is the payback period for the investment?**
    – **What is the profitability index for the investment?**
    – **According to the decision rules for the NPV and those for the IRR, is the project acceptable?**
    – **Is there a conflict between the two decision methods? If so, what would you use to make a recommendation?**
    – **What are the pros and cons of the NPV and the IRR? Explain your answers.**

    ### **Forecasting and Financing Projects**

**On the basis of the knowledge you gained from your readings, respond to the following questions:**

    – **It can be difficult to accurately forecast a project's cash flows because many risk factors may be present. As an analyst, what will you do to increase the accuracy of the project's cash flow forecasts? Provide details of the techniques that you would use and explain why.**
    – **Some firms use more debt in their capital structure than other firms. Some would argue that the use of debt in the capital structure enhances the owners' return on their investments. Others would say that the use of debt only increases the level of risk for the owners of the company. Which argument do you agree with and why? Explain your position. If debt is to be used when raising funds for a capital investment, how would you determine the proper level of debt? Explain your answer using examples.**
