    ### Summative Assessment

**Evidence-Based Practice Project: Addressing a Clinical Challenge**

This assignment requires you to develop a PICOT question addressing a significant clinical challenge in your area of practice. The project should reflect the application of EBP principles throughout the process. You will identify a clinical problem, develop a PICOT question and conduct a literature review.

    **Instructions:**

    1. **Problem Identification and Literature Review:** Clearly identify a significant clinical problem within your area of expertise, justifying its selection based on evidence of a practice gap and its potential for improvement through EBP. Conduct a thorough literature review to support your choice and inform the development of your intervention. (Minimum of 5 peer-reviewed sources).
    2. **PICOT:** Based on the literature review, design a PICOT question to address the chosen problem. Provide rationales for each part of your PICOT question.
    3. **Barriers and Theory Application:** Identify 2-3 barriers that may exist for implementing your intervention. Using nursing theory, describe how you would overcome those barriers.

    Introduction of Topic and Problem

    ◦ What is MENTAL HEALTH?

Mental health is a level of psychological well-

being, or an absence of mental illness. It is the

"psychological state of someone who is

functioning at a satisfactory level of emotional

    and behavioural adjustment“ (Holmes, 2015,

    p.23)

    ◦ Why does MENTAL HEALTH matter?

Mental health and wellness are essential to

overall health. The World Health Organization

defines health as “… a state of complete

physical, mental, and social well-being.” For all

of us, our mental, physical, and social health are

    interdependent.

    Library Research

    ◦ According to the Centers for Disease Control

and Prevention. Only 25 percent of people

with mental health issues feel that people are

caring and sympathetic toward their struggles

    (Smith, 2018).

    ◦ According to the Health and Human Services

Office of Minority Health, African Americans

are 20% more likely to experience serious

mental health problems than the general

    population (Jackson, 2017).

    ◦ Summary: From the library research, I was able

to gain extensive facts and figures related to

mental health, particularly that of African

    Americans.

    Online Research

    ◦ Illnesses that African Americans most often suffer

    from:

    ◦ Major depression

    ◦ ADHD

    ◦ Suicide(African American men)

    ◦ PTSD (African Americans are more likely to be victims of
    violent crime)

    ◦ African Americans are more likely to experience

certain factors that increase the risk for developing a

mental health condition like homelessness and

    violence exposure (NAMI, 2015).

    ◦ Summary: My online research gave me more up-to-

date information and actual cases related to mental

    illness and mental health.

    People Research

    ◦ According to Lily Sanders, “Social media is full of
negativity, people want to look like models, have
houses and money like influencers, their identity
totally changes. This causes a problem with
    people’s mental health” (personal
    communication, April 10, 2022).

    ◦ “Personally, I feel as thou suicide is never for no
reason at all! Different things can lead to it such
as; depression, mental disorders, drug abuse,
physical and mental abuse, emotional distress,
bullying, etc.” (J. Doug, personal communication,
    April 15, 2022).

    ◦ Summary: Overall, my people research gave me
perspectives I couldn’t find online or in books.
Listening to how people really feel about mental
    health was eye-opening.

    Proposal

    ◦ This final proposal will address the problems associated with mental health.
    ◦ Based on my research and evidence from books, academic journals, the

Internet, and people (Essays 1, 2, and 3), mental health can best be
addressed by holding multiple events that bring awareness to the topic,
specifically for students right here on the campus of FSU.

    ◦ These events would be held once a month on FSU’s campus. They would
invite the entire community with special guest speakers for all in attendance.

    ◦ During my research I found that awareness and community are big for
mental health. Events like these would promote inclusion and provide
activities for groups of all ages.

    ◦ The overall goal is to spread awareness about mental health and let people
know that they are not alone.

    Reflection of Research Process

    Overall, my favorite essay was
number 3 because I got to talk

    to actual people about my
    topic. Getting their

    perspectives really made this
    research fun.

Essay 1 was the hardest to complete
because I’m not good with books
and I’ve never been to the library.

My topic is relevant for today so
finding books on my topic was

    difficult.

    For the online research, my
essay was done in one day. I

    feel like online research is
    easy. Using the CRAAP test

    also helped me evaluate my
sources to be sure I had

    reliable articles for my essay.

    Conclusion

    ◦ Despite the best efforts of so many

    devoted educators, children who

    struggle with mental health and

learning disorders still face an array of

    serious challenges and obstacles in

    school.

    ◦ It is up to the public, as well as

    education systems, to educate

everyone about mental health and the

    issues that may be related.

    ◦ If we all help one another, we could

    save a life!

    Introduction of Topic and Problem

    ◦ What is MENTAL HEALTH?

Mental health is a level of psychological well-

being, or an absence of mental illness. It is the

"psychological state of someone who is

functioning at a satisfactory level of emotional

    and behavioural adjustment“ (Holmes, 2015,

    p.23)

    ◦ Why does MENTAL HEALTH matter?

Mental health and wellness are essential to

overall health. The World Health Organization

defines health as “… a state of complete

physical, mental, and social well-being.” For all

of us, our mental, physical, and social health are

    interdependent.

    Library Research

    ◦ According to the Centers for Disease Control

and Prevention. Only 25 percent of people

with mental health issues feel that people are

caring and sympathetic toward their struggles

    (Smith, 2018).

    ◦ According to the Health and Human Services

Office of Minority Health, African Americans

are 20% more likely to experience serious

mental health problems than the general

    population (Jackson, 2017).

    ◦ Summary: From the library research, I was able

to gain extensive facts and figures related to

mental health, particularly that of African

    Americans.

    Online Research

    ◦ Illnesses that African Americans most often suffer

    from:

    ◦ Major depression

    ◦ ADHD

    ◦ Suicide(African American men)

    ◦ PTSD (African Americans are more likely to be victims of
    violent crime)

    ◦ African Americans are more likely to experience

certain factors that increase the risk for developing a

mental health condition like homelessness and

    violence exposure (NAMI, 2015).

    ◦ Summary: My online research gave me more up-to-

date information and actual cases related to mental

    illness and mental health.

    People Research

    ◦ According to Lily Sanders, “Social media is full of
negativity, people want to look like models, have
houses and money like influencers, their identity
totally changes. This causes a problem with
    people’s mental health” (personal
    communication, April 10, 2022).

    ◦ “Personally, I feel as thou suicide is never for no
reason at all! Different things can lead to it such
as; depression, mental disorders, drug abuse,
physical and mental abuse, emotional distress,
bullying, etc.” (J. Doug, personal communication,
    April 15, 2022).

    ◦ Summary: Overall, my people research gave me
perspectives I couldn’t find online or in books.
Listening to how people really feel about mental
    health was eye-opening.

    Proposal

    ◦ This final proposal will address the problems associated with mental health.
    ◦ Based on my research and evidence from books, academic journals, the

Internet, and people (Essays 1, 2, and 3), mental health can best be
addressed by holding multiple events that bring awareness to the topic,
specifically for students right here on the campus of FSU.

    ◦ These events would be held once a month on FSU’s campus. They would
invite the entire community with special guest speakers for all in attendance.

    ◦ During my research I found that awareness and community are big for
mental health. Events like these would promote inclusion and provide
activities for groups of all ages.

    ◦ The overall goal is to spread awareness about mental health and let people
know that they are not alone.

    Reflection of Research Process

    Overall, my favorite essay was
number 3 because I got to talk

    to actual people about my
    topic. Getting their

    perspectives really made this
    research fun.

Essay 1 was the hardest to complete
because I’m not good with books
and I’ve never been to the library.

My topic is relevant for today so
finding books on my topic was

    difficult.

    For the online research, my
essay was done in one day. I

    feel like online research is
    easy. Using the CRAAP test

    also helped me evaluate my
sources to be sure I had

    reliable articles for my essay.

    Conclusion

    ◦ Despite the best efforts of so many

    devoted educators, children who

    struggle with mental health and

learning disorders still face an array of

    serious challenges and obstacles in

    school.

    ◦ It is up to the public, as well as

    education systems, to educate

everyone about mental health and the

    issues that may be related.

    ◦ If we all help one another, we could

    save a life!

    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

    ## **Introduction**

In this assignment, you will search the Web to identify incidents of current physical security breaches, analyze each incident, and identify best practices that could have been used to prevent the attacks.

The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is:

    – Research examples of physical security breaches.

This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). The library is your home for SWS assistance, including citations and formatting. Please refer to the [Library site](https://library.strayer.edu/sws) for all support. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

    ## **Instructions**

Write a 3- to 5-page paper in which you analyze two physical security breaches.

Using either the _Wall Street Journal_ or U.S. Newsstream, search for the term "physical security breach." Select two news articles on the search topic that were posted within the last six months.

    ### **Article 1**

    – Summarize, concisely, the key details of the physical security breach described in Article 1.
    – Include the date of the attack, the type of attack, who or what was affected, and any reported loss of revenue or personally identifiable information (PII).
    – Provide a screenshot that includes the article's name and the date it was published, along with a valid URL.
    – Describe, clearly and accurately, the steps described in Article 1 that were taken, or are being taken, to alleviate the effects of the breach after the fact or to resolve the issue.
    – Explain whether the physical security breach described in Article 1 was preventable, why or why not, and if preventable, what preventive steps could have been taken.
    – **Note**: These are steps that would have prevented the security breach from having occurred in the first place, not mitigation steps taken after the breach has already occurred.
    – Describe the physical access security best practices that could have been used to prevent the breach described in Article 1, citing specific, credible sources of best practices.

    ### **Article 2**

    – Summarize, concisely, the key details of the physical security breach described in Article 2.
    – Include the date of the attack, the type of attack, who or what was affected, and any reported loss of revenue or personally identifiable information (PII).
    – Provide a screenshot that includes the article's name and the date it was published, along with a valid URL.
    – Describe, clearly and accurately, the steps described in Article 2 that were taken, or are being taken, to alleviate the effects of the breach after the fact or to resolve the issue.
    – Explain whether the physical security breach described in Article 2 was preventable, why or why not, and if preventable, what preventive steps could have been taken.
    – **Note**: These are steps that would have prevented the security breach from having occurred in the first place, not mitigation steps taken after the breach has already occurred.
    – Describe the physical access security best practices that could have been used to prevent the breach described in Article 2, citing specific, credible sources of best practices.

    ## **Source Citations and Writing**

    – Support your main points, assertions, arguments, or conclusions with at least three specific and credible academic references synthesized into a coherent analysis of the evidence.

    Week 1 Discussion

Welcome to Week 1!  To begin, this week the text introduces you to the foundations of Social Psychology.  In doing so, it presents various forms by which social psychologists collect information from which they develop and test theories describing individual human behavior in social settings.  One of the more predominant ways in which information is collected is through observation.

    **Introduction:**

Observation plays a crucial role in social psychology by providing researchers with direct access to the complexities of human behavior and social interactions. Through careful observation, researchers can study individuals, groups, and communities in their natural environments, allowing for a more authentic understanding of social phenomena. Whether observing public spaces, classrooms, workplaces, or even online communities, the observational approach enables researchers to capture nuances that may be missed through other research methods. By witnessing the social context, researchers can observe and document verbal and nonverbal behaviors, social norms, power dynamics, and other aspects that shape human experiences.

One of the primary advantages of observation is its ability to generate rich and detailed qualitative data. By closely examining real-life situations, researchers can gain insights that go beyond what individuals self-report or what can be captured through surveys or experiments. Observation allows for the exploration of hidden or subconscious behaviors, revealing the intricacies of social interactions that may not be fully captured through other research techniques. Additionally, observation enables researchers to study phenomena as they naturally occur, reducing the potential biases introduced by artificial laboratory settings. However, it is essential to acknowledge that observation has limitations. Researchers must navigate ethical considerations, address potential observer biases, and carefully select the appropriate observational method to ensure the validity and reliability of their findings.

Various observation techniques are employed in the social sciences, each suited to different research contexts and objectives. Participant observation involves the researcher actively participating in the observed group or community, gaining an insider's perspective while collecting data. Non-participant observation, on the other hand, involves the researcher remaining separate from the observed individuals, allowing for a more objective viewpoint. Systematic observation involves the use of predetermined categories and coding schemes to record specific behaviors or events. Naturalistic observation focuses on observing behavior in everyday settings, while controlled observation occurs in a more controlled and structured environment. Selecting the appropriate observation technique depends on the research question, access to the population of interest, and the level of control required.

This week you will each become budding social psychologists.  Our goal for this activity and discussion is to gain a deeper understanding of the relevance observation skills have within the science of psychology.  In addition, I want you to start to look at the social world around you with a renewed interest.  Much of what we will be discussing and learning within this course impacts each and every one of us on a daily basis.

    **YOUR TASK:**

    **Part 1: Main Post**

    **OBSERVATION**

    A.  Pick a spot for your mini observation study.  I encourage you to choose a social situation that captures your interest. It could be friends playing basketball, a person waiting in line at a restaurant, or someone you come across during your daily routine. Take 10 minutes to observe their behavior closely and take written or mental notes (more on this next). Remember, the purpose is to gain insights into human interactions and behaviors.

    B.  Record your observations as best you can, given the environment in which you find yourself.  While observing, please prioritize your safety. If you're in a situation where writing could be distracting or unsafe, like being stuck in traffic, wait until you reach a safe and appropriate location to record your observations. Safety first, always!

    **SHARE YOUR FINDINGS**

    A. Post here under this Main Topic a summary of your observation experience (in 10 sentences or more).  For example, 1) describe some of the behaviors you observed, 2) share how you felt about observing the individual, and/or 3) provide any insights you might have about why the behavior you observed occurred.
