oh whisper, O my soul! The afternoon
Is waning into evening, whisper soft!
Peace, O my rebel heart! For soon the moon
From out its misty veil will swing aloft!
Be patient, weary body, soon the night
Will wrap thee gently in her sable sheet,
And with a leaden sigh though wilt invite
To rest thy tired hands and aching feet.
The wretched day was theirs, the night is mine
Come tender sleep, and fold me to thy breast.
But what steals out the gray clouds like red wine?
O dawn! O dreaded dawn! O let me rest
Weary my veins, my brain, my life! Have pity
No! Once the harsh, the ugly city!   By Claude McKay

Which of the following statements accurately depicts the level of student participation in the two lessons? L esson 1: www.vimeo.com/264848211 L esson 2: www.vimeo.com/264848232  The students participate effectively in both lessons.   In the first lesson the students participate effectively in the class.   The students are reluctant to participate in the second lesson.   The students participate more effectively in the second lesson than the first.  The students don’t participate effectively in either lesson. Which of the following most accurately describes the students in the first lesson? L esson 1: www.vimeo.com/264848211  Rude and disrespectful.  Happy and interested.  Confident and active.  Confused and intimidated.  Tired and uninterested. How does the attitude of the teacher affect the students in the two lessons? L esson 1: www.vimeo.com/264848211 L esson 2: www.vimeo.com/264848232  The teacher has a firm attitude in the first lesson and the students respond with a high level of participation.   The teacher has a positive and engaging attitude in the first lesson but there isn’t a lot of student participation.   The teacher’s attitude doesn’t change in the two lessons but there is more student participation in the second lesson.   The students don’t really respond to the attitude of the teacher in either lesson.   The teacher has a positive and engaging attitude in the second lesson and the students respond with a high level of participation. Why are the students unable to understand the lesson point in the first lesson? L esson 1: www.vimeo.com/264848211  The lesson point is too difficult for the students.  The students are not given a clear explanation of the lesson point (modal auxiliary verbs) so find it hard to understand.  The students are noisy and disruptive in the first lesson.  The lesson point is too dull and boring.  The students aren’t interested in the lesson point because it is well below their level of English comprehension. Which of the following is one of the errors that the teacher made in the first lesson? L esson 1: www.vimeo.com/264848211  The teacher starts with an Engage activity.  The teacher asks them if they have brought their textbooks.  The teacher starts teaching immediately, without an Engage phase.  The teacher explains they will be doing a Patchwork lesson that day.  The teacher explains they will be doing a Boomerang lesson that day. In the first lesson, how does the teacher react when students can’t answer questions? L esson 1: www.vimeo.com/264848211  He slowly explains what he means.  He demonstrates what he means.  He asks more questions, causing further confusion.  He draws a picture to help them.  He keeps asking the same question until they get it. In the first lesson there is a drill at 5m 30s. What does the teacher learn about the individual students’ pronunciation from this drill? L esson 1: www.vimeo.com/264848211  He finds out they are all saying it incorrectly.  He finds that they are saying it perfectly.  He finds the males are using correct pronunciation.  He finds the females are all saying it wrong.  Nothing. He would need to do some individual drilling to learn anything. Why is the Engage phase effective in the second lesson? ? L esson 2: www.vimeo.com/264848232  The students are familiar with the concepts discussed so they can participate in the Engage phase.  The Engage phase is effective because the teacher gives them the answers.  The students happened to guess what they were supposed to do.  The Engage is effective because the teacher doesn’t waste time by letting the students talk.  It is effective because he probably does the same thing every lesson. In the second lesson during the Engage phase the teacher did not correct the students’ mistakes in grammar. This is because… L esson 2: www.vimeo.com/264848232  he didn’t notice any.  errors and mistakes should not be addressed during the Engage phase.  the students didn’t make any.   he was in a hurry to get to the study phase.  it wasn’t a grammar lesson. How does the teacher use his voice more effectively in the second lesson? L esson 2: www.vimeo.com/264848232  The teacher’s voice is louder and more forceful in the second lesson.   The teacher speaks more slowly and clearly in the second lesson.   The teacher speaks more quickly in the second lesson, which forces the students to pay closer attention.   The teacher speaks more softly in the second lesson, which forces the students to pay closer attention.   The teacher uses some of the students’ native language to generate interest in the lesson. How does the teacher build a better rapport with the students in the second lesson? L esson 2: www.vimeo.com/264848232  He doesn’t put up with problem behavior in the second lesson.   He calls mostly on the more advanced students to produce more correct answers.  He learns the students’ names and involves all of the students in the lesson.  He asks the students personal questions and treats them as friends.  He tells the students about himself before beginning the lesson. What simple gesture does the teacher use in the second lesson that helps the students feel comfortable and also keen to participate in the class? L esson 2: www.vimeo.com/264848232  The teacher points at the students.   The teacher smiles in the second lesson.   The teacher calls on the students to participate in the second lesson in an unpredictable manner.   The teacher uses a puzzled look when students answer incorrectly.   The teacher claps in the second lesson to indicate that time is up. During the board work study phase of the second lesson the teacher kept leaving gaps for the students to fill in both visually and verbally. These were examples of… L esson 2: www.vimeo.com/264848232  drilling for pronunciation.  monitoring the students.  elicitation of the target language.  teaching for an exam.  laziness of the teacher. In the second lesson, before starting the activity at around 24 minutes, what did the teacher do to check the students understood the activity? L esson 2:www.vimeo.com/264848232  He elicited a correct answer from the worksheet he was about to give them.  He asked “Do you understand”?  He didn’t do-anything, as he was pretty sure they knew what to do.  He went through it all a couple of times again, to make sure.  He told them that if they got it wrong he would be angry. In the same activity as the previous question (14) he handed out only one worksheet between groups of two or three people. Why didn’t he give them one each?  If every student gets a worksheet each, they will have no reason to talk to each other.  He didn’t have enough for everyone to get one.  He was in a rush to get them going, so it was quicker to give one between two or three.  They would probably talk too much when they had one each.  He was being environmentally aware. In the first lesson at around 19m 50s when the teacher starts an Activate activity, the students are confused. Why?  L esson 1:www.vimeo.com/264848211  There was no clear demonstration given or any context outlined for the activity’s purpose.  They had not been listening to the teacher telling them what to do.  The students are at the wrong level for the teacher.  The students only appear confused, they are actually just bored.  The study phase had been too successful. After watching the videos which of the following statements is most accurate with regards to the relationship between students and teachers? L esson 1: www.vimeo.com/264848211 L esson 2: www.vimeo.com/264848232  Students often have poor listening skills and concepts need to be explained multiple times.   The attitude that the teacher comes into class with will have a profound effect on the success of the lesson.   Teachers will sometimes have bad lessons and there is little that can be done about this fact.   If students don’t understand a concept the teacher should just continue on through the lesson.   Teachers must first and foremost maintain discipline in the classroom. Which of the following is NOT a good reason to monitor students during a Study phase activity?  To be available to answer students’ questions.  To judge individual students’ strengths and weaknesses.  To judge how much more time is needed to complete the activity.  To reprimand students for incorrect answers.  To ensure that the instructions were understood. What lesson plan structure does the teacher use in the second lesson?  L esson 2: www.vimeo.com/264848232  A Presentation, Practice and Production ESA lesson plan.  A Grammar Translation ESA lesson plan.  A Boomerang ESA lesson plan.  A Straight Arrow ESA lesson plan.  A Patchwork ESA lesson plan. Which of the following describes the type of activity that took place starting at around 35 min in the second lesson? L esson 2: www.vimeo.com/264848232  An elicitation technique.  A three by three drill.  Class monitoring.  An Engage phase.  A mill drill.

    Argument with God
My child was struggling for life in hospital,
And I worried, tense and tried,
    Sat in silent prayer,
In violent silence arguing with my God.
    God, I said,
Why do you allow him to suffer so?
    Why him all the time?
    Why?
    God was silent!
    Not a word from him,
    Not a word!
    Maybe I thought.
    God is angry with me.
    Ill appease my God
    Ill promise to be good,
Try and be good at least,
    Surely God would then respond,
    God, I pleaded.
    Please God.
    To be good is hard,
    But Ill try.
    But
    My child must live,
    Live free from pain,
    God
You know how I love him, dont you?
Dont you? Dont you? Dont you?
    But
    God is dumb:
    Like my child
    Then I said to myself,
    God is just,
    Ill appeal for justice,
    God, I called,
    Though you are silent,
I am sure you hear me,
    Be fair, be just
Let him live strong and happy.
    Then
    I saw on the wall
    A cockroach pregnant with egg,
    In the loins of labour,
    Bringing forth new life.
    I snatched a newspaper,
    And hit the cockroach.
    It fell on its back,
    Struggling for life,
    And I crushed it
With the heel of my shoe.
All the time I was praying,
    Violently pleading for life,
    The life of my child.

“An Argument against Veganism… from a Vegan?”
Rob greenfield (1986-) is an adventurer, environmental activist, humanist, and entrepreneur who often uses what one source terms “attention grabbing tactics” to make his ar         If the author appeals to pathos, does he do so fairly? If the author appeals to logos, is his logic rational or is it based on faulty reasoning or overgeneralization? What authorities does the argument rely on and are they creditable? Is the argument rational and feasible? What facts, reasons, examples, and evidence does the argument employ as support and are they effectively presented? Or does the author misrepresent his examples or take them out of context in order to fit his stance? How is the argument organized and arranged? How does the language, tone and style (humor, sarcasm, diction, formality, seriousness) of the argument work to convince or turn off its audience?
In his own words, he’s gone from being a “drunk dude” to “a dude making a difference.” Giving up an early focus on becoming a millionaire by 30, at age 24, Greenfield began to pursue a much simpler life as he came to realize the role his own behavior played in many of the world’s problems. He is known for having 111 possessions, all of which fit in his backpack: for living off the grid in a 50- square foot house a Teeny Greeny (he auctioned off the house and raised $10,000 to build ten tiny houses for San Diego’s homeless); and for project Food Waste Fiasco. For the latter, he “dove into more than two thousand dumpsters across the United States to demonstrate how nearly half of all food in the U.S is wasted while 50 m
illion (1 to 7) Americans are a food insecure.” This 2015 blog posting is from his web site RobGreenfiled T.V. As you read it, noticed how carefully, he as a vegan, seeks to offer arguments for Veganism while acknowledging its limits and admitting that certain carnivores (people who eat meat) may be living healthier and more environmentally friendly lives than some vegans.
The topic of meat eating can be quite controversial and often becomes pretty heated. So whether you eat meat or not, please take a deep breath and chill out for a second. To the vegans reading this, I want to be upfront that I utterly support Veganism. It is the first recommendation to any who asks me how to live a more earth friendly life. I eat an almost complete plant based diet myself; about 95-99% of what I eat is plant-based. To the meat eaters reading this, please read this full before you quickly use this blog as an excuse to blindly eat food that is detrimental to the earth, to other species, and to you.
Argument against Veganism by someone who strongly support Veganism. We live on a planet that is home to seven billion people, and amongst that massive population there are many different cultures. Some are vegetarian by nature, some vegan  by nature, and others eat a lot of meat and animal products. Argument, in part because some people believe that Veganism is the one and only way, no exceptions. That’s totally understandable given many of the horrifying practices that are taking place in our current industrial agriculture system.
There’s the factory farming the complete disregard of animals being living beings. Chickens are grown too big for them to walk. Female chicks are debeaked shortly after birth, and the male chicks are thrown into the trash. Pigs are grown in cages so small that they never get to stand up. Cows never get to graze in the field and barely see in the light of day.
There’s the fact that eat a vegan diet is the single largest thing that an American can do to decrease their environmental impact. Raising meat is the single largest contributor to our increasing droughts and our resource depletion. A hamburger takes over 600 gallons of water to produce.
There’s the rainforest deforestation that takes place to raise soy and grains to feed the animals that we eat. There’s the health risk of eating meat as well. We are pumping our animals full of dangerous hormones and antibiotic that are doing a huge injustice to the human race. The list goes on and on as to why we should all give up meat and animal products. We’d be doing a great service to the earth, to the other other species we share the earth with, and to ourselves. But there is another side to the story that many vegans and vegetarians often leave out. There are cultures of people who eat meat and animal products in a manner that causes less harm to earth and animals than some vegan diets do.
Your perspective, opinion agree or disagree and why? You support vegan or veganiam.

    (1) Many people with learning disabilities have had successful careers. (2) For example, Anderson Cooper, the CNN anchor, has a mild form of dyslexia, a condition that interferes with a person’s ability to write, spell, and pronounce words correctly. (3) Cooper has revealed that as a child he had to go to a special instructor to help him become a better reader. (4) However, Cooper didn’t let dyslexia stop his rise from a fact checker for a small news agency to a war correspondent for ABC news to the anchor for CNN. (5) Another instance of a person with a learning disability who has had a successful career is Tommy Hilfiger, the famous fashion designer. (6) People from all over the world wear his clothing, allowing Hilfiger’s company to make millions of dollars. (7) Yet those who buy from his fashion line might not know that Hilfiger had to repeat the 10th grade and barely graduated from high school because of his dyslexia. (8) Hilfiger stated that he “didn’t know what was wrong. Everybody thought I was a screw-up.” (9) Despite this discouragement, Hilfiger was determined to succeed in the fashion industry, going from being a small clothing store owner to becoming a world-known designer and seller. (10) Both Anderson Cooper and Tommy Hilfiger demonstrate that a learning disability doesn’t have to hold someone back from achieving a highly successful career.
