    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

The non-profit agency selected for this program evaluation is Operation Homefront, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to building strong, stable, and secure military families through various relief and recurring support programs. The programs include the Critical Financial Assistance Program, transitional and permanent housing for veterans, and recurring family support programs (Back-to-School Brigade, Holiday Meals for Military, Star-Spangled Babies, Holiday Toy Drive, Homefront Celebrations, Military Child of the Year).

    **Ethical Considerations for Consultation**

Consulting for Operation Homefront requires careful consideration of ethical principles. Maintaining client confidentiality is paramount (American Psychological Association, 2017). This project will adhere to this by using aggregate data and anonymizing any information shared by agency personnel. Other key ethical considerations include ensuring competence, maintaining integrity, upholding professional responsibility, and respecting the rights and dignity of military families (American Psychological Association, 2017). Potential conflicts of interest will be carefully avoided to ensure an unbiased evaluation.

**Interview Approach and Logic Model Inputs**

To gather information for the logic model, I will initially review the Operation Homefront website. The "Our Programs" section (https://operationhomefront.org/our-programs/) provides a comprehensive overview of their services and target beneficiaries. This website is efficient in obtaining information regarding the application process and the various programs offered. While direct contact could provide additional insights, the website offers a strong foundation for understanding the agency's operations. According to Balmer et al. (2020), understanding the purpose of the evaluation is crucial before data collection. The website clearly outlines the agency's mission and programs, providing essential context.

    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

Generalizability is the goal of most researchers. Through their research, they have shown their experimental research methods or intervention works in the environment they studied. They would like to show that their method or intervention will work in a wide variety of environments. If they can, then their method or intervention is considered generalizable.

**Imagine** you are a manager at a retail store. The corporation has several hundred stores across the United States. You are asked to develop a new method for the customer service associates to improve their efficiency and timeliness in restocking products. Your supervisor told you the corporation would like to take your method of explaining the differences between qualitative and quantitative research and use it in their other stores.

    ##### **Assessment Deliverable**

**Create** a 10- to 12-slide presentation with visual elements and narration (audio or video) in which you:

    – Explain the differences between qualitative and quantitative research methods.
    – Describe how you might use the scientific method to evaluate if your method works as well in other stores.
    – Explain if your method is qualitative or quantitative and how it might influence your evaluation.
    – In your own words, define generalizability, and explain how it applies to this situation.
    – Describe at least 2 research methods that improve generalizability.
    – Summarize the main points of your presentation that you want your audience to take away from this training.

**Record** yourself (for audio or video) using a webcam, smartphone, or audio recorder. Be sure to submit both your presentation and mp4 file. Note: Sound and visibility are critically important for presentations. Practice your presentation before recording it to make sure the viewer can see and/or hear you clearly.

**Include** a title slide, a reference slide, and detailed speaker notes of at least 50 words per slide.

**Cite** at least 2 peer-reviewed, scholarly, or similar references according to APA guidelines.

Directions: Read the directions carefully for each section and completely fill in the table for all 4 parts.

    ### Part 1: Source Review

For Part I, review Adira, et al.’s (2022) article, “Difficulties in emotion regulation and optimistic bias in young drivers’ risky driving behaviors.” Based on this article, completely fill in the following table.

_Scoring Criterion:_ Describe research methods and quantitative data used in research.

    Discussion post 1:

If I had to evaluate how satisfied parents or guardians are with the after-school tutoring and activities we provide, I would likely employ a quantitative method.  I would use a simple survey with rating scale questions. The reason is that it's an easy way to collect feedback from a lot of people quickly, and it gives us numbers to measure satisfaction levels. I would choose this method because it's also easier to organize the information and present it to others, like managers or people who support the program. They're usually more interested in numbers and trends rather than reading through long written answers from everyone.  For example, asking parents to rate their satisfaction on a scale of 1 to 5 helps us see exactly how well we're doing and spot any areas where we might need to improve. What makes this approach quantitative is that it focuses on collecting data that can be counted and measured. It's not like we're asking for stories or personal opinions in detail, which would be quantitative. Instead, we're using numbers and statistics to get a general idea of how satisfied families are with our services.

    Discussion post 2

If I were assigned to evaluate parent and guardian satisfaction at a non-profit after-school program, I would choose a **mixed-method approach**, but I would lean more heavily on **quantitative methods** for the primary evaluation. Quantitative methods, such as structured surveys with Likert scale questions, allow us to gather data from a larger sample of parents efficiently. This approach would help identify trends in satisfaction levels, such as how parents rate communication, quality of tutoring, safety, and extracurricular offerings. The numerical data is easier to analyze and can be presented clearly to stakeholders, which is often necessary for grant reporting or program funding decisions.

However, to gain deeper insights into why parents feel a certain way, I would also incorporate a **qualitative element**, like open-ended survey questions or optional focus groups. These methods allow us to capture the personal stories and experiences that don’t always come through in numbers.

Quantitative research is defined by its use of measurable data and statistics, while qualitative research focuses on open-ended responses and understanding the meaning behind behavior or attitudes. Using both ensures a well-rounded evaluation.

    Program Evaluation

The name of the agency I am planning to evaluate is Safe Journey House. It is located in Maryland and has four branches within the state of Maryland. Here is the website for the agency: [https://www.safejourneyhouse1.com/index.html](https://www.safejourneyhouse1.com/index.html)

Safe Journey House is an agency that provides an alternative to hospitalization for people experiencing psychiatric crises and aims to shorten inpatient psychiatric hospital stays. It collaborates with Prince George's County Psychiatric Hospital, which is located in Prince George's County, Maryland.

The main ethical issue in consulting a social service agency is patient confidentiality. This can be overcome by using personal identifying numbers, such as medical record numbers or unique numbers generated for each individual.

I will be using the agency website and not directly interviewing anyone at the agency. However, if needed, I could consider contacting the managers, as I was an employee of the agency many years ago and am familiar with the staff.
