    Post 1:
According to the textbook, _Theories of Personality_, a useful theory organizes known facts, generates research, and helps predict and explain behaviors. Some requirements involve the ability to be practical, testable, and logically consistent. By creating a theory that includes making observations, identifying key patterns, and forming explanations that are redefined over time, and backed up by evidence. Some differences between a theory and an idea are that a theory is a structured and very much evidence-based system of concepts, whereas an idea is usually untested and less developed.
The textbook continues to outline six “dimensions for a concept of humanity,” which reflect different assumptions theorists make about human nature. One of these is “determinism versus free will”, which explores whether behavior is formed by internal and external forces or by individual choice. For example, Freud’s psychological theory supports determinism, which suggests unconscious drives and childhood experiences form behavior. An individual avoiding intimacy due to past trauma due to past trauma is an example of this. Understanding these elements helps evaluate different personality theories and their outlook on human nature.
    Post 2:
According to the textbook, a useful theory is a set of related assumptions. It is formed by first forming several hypotheses. It is part of a cycle that involves research, generating data, and yielding new hypotheses, continuing this way until it is no longer useful. It is also only useful if it is organized in a meaningful way, is consistent and straightforward, and can either be confirmed or disconfirmed. The theory stops being useful when it is unable to generate additional research or explain its data. A theory is different from an idea in that it contains several ideas which will generate research.
One of the six "dimensions for a concept of humanity" is _social vs. biological influences._ This sounds like the concept often referred to as "nature vs. nurture." We often wonder if our personalities are mostly predetermined based on our genes, or if it is more shaped by the way we are raised. For example, if someone's biological parent had violent tendencies, but they were not raised by this parent, would they be more predisposed to violence than someone who is raised by loving parents? Or would this only be the case for someone raised around violence? Twins separated at birth can give some insight into these questions.

    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

**Locate** a cross-cultural research article in psychology that you will use for your Week 2 assignment. Make sure your selected research article has cultural and systemic variables that have deficiencies. You should also verify that the research article states its research question, research methods, research participants, research procedures, and intervention processes.
You may find it useful to use the following tips when searching for a research article:
    – Use AND to combine keywords and phrases when searching the electronic databases for journal articles. To get the best results, use the word OR inside parentheses.
    – For some topics, subject searching works better than keyword searching, which is usually the default. Find out if the database you are using has a "subject search" option. For example, in Academic OneFile, look for the Subject Guide Search, instead of using the large search box. This may bring up fewer results, but you will be searching with more precision.
    – Use the results of a keyword search to discover subject headings (descriptors) used in the database. Usually, they will appear at the bottom of the article or somewhere in the citation. For example, by doing a keyword search for "girls and prostitution", you will discover that Academic OneFile uses subject terms such as "Cultural Diversity" and "Cross-Cultural Psychology."
**Write** a 175- to 350-word explanation of why you selected the article. Include the following:
    – The proper APA citation for your chosen article: Be sure to include all required retrieval information (author(s), date of publication, title, journal name, etc.) and a link to the article.
    – Why did you select this article?
    – What culture or cultures were discussed in the article?
    – What is being studied in the article?
    – What is or will be the effect of the article on cultural awareness and diversity?

Conformity is the tendency to change one’s behaviors to match those of others. Obedience is
adhering to an order from a perceived legitimate authority. Various group processes can also
influence whether people conform or obey in a given situation. Social psychologists study why
people conform and obey, even when the behavior goes against their personal beliefs, and
conversely, why people refuse to conform and obey at great personal cost.

For this Discussion, you examine contemporary examples of conformity, obedience, and group
    processes in society.
