    CASE STUDY 3 ADVANCED HEALTH

**The specific socioeconomic, spiritual, lifestyle, and other cultural factors related to the health**

Although it is impossible to infer his socioeconomic situation from a 23-year-old Native American man, he seems well-developed and nourished. His wish to enter heaven alludes to his spiritual or religious convictions. The establishment of rapport, empathy, and treatment must take into account the strong connection between spirituality and personal identity in traditional Native American culture (Rhoads & Petersen, 2021).

**Assessment Domains to be Utilized in Comprehensive Nutritional Assessment**

Rhoads and Petersen (2021) provide a detailed description of the five domains of a thorough nutritional assessment. Nutrient balance is assessed in Domain 1, which includes testing for nitrogen balance, energy expenditure, digestion, control, and excretion, as well as food intake. Domain 2 is the evaluation of body composition using bioelectrical impedance analysis, mid-arm circumference, triceps skinfold, height, weight, and body mass index. The evaluation of pain, fever, redness, swelling, abnormal muscular contraction, and inflammatory blood indicators is domain 3's method of assessing inflammatory activity. Domain 4 is the evaluation of function, which includes immunological, cognitive, and muscular function. Domain 5 involves evaluating social variables, including age, education, neighborhood, chronic disease management skills, and healthcare access, that may have an impact on nutrition.

When performing a thorough nutritional evaluation for this patient, it is important to take into account both the frequency and amounts of his anxiety complaints as well as the use of external coping techniques like alcohol and marijuana. Given that he seems to be managing stressors (Domain 5, the evaluation of social variables influencing diet, would be the first option. Additionally, domains 1 and 3 will be crucial. Given this patient's high body temperature, enlarged liver, hypertension, scleral icterus, and family history, it is necessary to assess his inflammatory processes in addition to his dietary intake and behaviors (Rhoads & Petersen, 2021). These evaluations must be used to thoroughly assess the patient to establish an appropriate treatment plan.

**Functional Anatomy and Physiology of a Psychiatric Mental Health Patient**

Mental or emotional distress is directly linked to particular physiological reactions, according to functional anatomy and physiology (Delugash & Story, 2020). An excellent illustration is the fact that fear can cause sweating or an elevated heart rate. This is significant when evaluating individuals whose mental and physical health are being treated together. Observing the patient's high blood pressure or heart rate in this instance of generalized anxiety may indicate psychological anguish leading to a physiological reaction. A nurse must understand the limbic system's function as the brain's emotional region, its direct links to the endocrine and autonomic nervous systems, and any correlations found during the physical examination to effectively regulate emotions.External stressors that might be influencing the patient's health and well-being must be considered by the clinician, gathering evidence for a diagnosis. A complete treatment strategy must take into account and address all mental and physical problems (Rojas et al., 2023).

In conclusion, assessing the patient's cognitive functioning through the observation of any changes in executive, memory, and attentional processes is crucial. To perform efficient assessments and interventions, it is also essential to possess a practical awareness of the symptoms, potential remedies, and different types of mental illnesses.

    CASE STUDY 2 Health Promotion

**Nurse Practitioner Serving an Urban Immigrant Community**

**Give at least two examples of emerging populations in the United States and describe their cultural characteristics that might interfere with their healthcare**

Two prominent emerging populations in the United States are recent immigrants from East Asia and Latin America. East Asian immigrants usually perpetuate traditional health beliefs in favor of holistic and alternative forms of medicine, including acupuncture and herbal therapy, that may clash with Western medical practices (Li-Geng et al., 2020). In some cases, the patient may prefer traditional medicines instead of those prescribed, causing treatment adherence difficulties. Furthermore, language differences may hamper the ability to facilitate clear expression between the patient and the healthcare provider. Likewise, Latin American immigrants often depend much on family intervention in health issues and traditional healing practices, which may lead to delayed entry into formal healthcare systems (Cervantes & Menjívar, 2020). Additionally, limited English proficiency and varied health literacy may also lead to misunderstandings and compromise the quality of health education, hence the need for culturally sensitive care.

**Identify the different roles and responsibilities of the nurse**

Nurse practitioners in urban immigrant communities assume multiple critical roles to meet the complex needs of diverse populations. As primary care providers, NPs assess health status, diagnose illnesses, prescribe medications, and manage chronic conditions. They also act as health educators by tailoring health promotion and disease prevention strategies to fit patients’ cultural beliefs and languages (Kingma, 2018). Beyond clinical duties, NPs serve as advocates for patients by ensuring their cultural preferences and values are respected and by helping them navigate healthcare systems that can often seem daunting. Additionally, NPs coordinate care among different providers and community resources to optimize health outcomes. Some nurse practitioners also engage in research to improve culturally competent care, addressing systemic barriers faced by immigrant populations.

**Please discuss the challenges you anticipate facing when fulfilling the various roles of a nurse practitioner. How would you work to improve your weaknesses? Identify your strengths.**

I expect a number of difficulties in carrying out my responsibilities as a nurse practitioner working in an urban neighborhood that is culturally diverse. Overcoming cultural boundaries that impact trust and communication between myself and my patients is one of the biggest challenges. Many clients may have health beliefs and practices vastly different from Western medicine, which can lead to misunderstandings or reluctance to follow treatment plans. Language differences pose another challenge, as they can hinder clear communication and patient education (Taylan & Weber, 2023. Additionally, limited healthcare resources in urban areas can complicate care coordination and access for underserved populations. To improve these weaknesses, I would participate regularly in cultural competence education to enhance my knowledge of various health beliefs and traditions (Liu et al., 2022). Learning important words in the languages that are most commonly spoken in my community would also help me improve my language abilities. To guarantee appropriate communication, I would constantly use qualified interpreters. To foster trust and promote candid communication, I would also work on improving my patient rapport and engaging in active listening. I would seek feedback from patients and colleagues to identify areas for personal growth and remain open to constructive criticism. I possess the strength of empathy, the ability to relate profoundly with patients, and the strength of adaptability, the ability to adjust my care according to varying needs. I am patient-centered in my approach, always making my patients feel heard and engaged in health decisions. By building on these strengths and actively working on my weaknesses, I can provide more effective, respectful, and equitable care to my patients.

**Which patient population is most likely to experience health disparities and why?**

Emerging immigrant groups like East Asian and Latin American groups are especially at risk for health disparities. They experience barriers such as limited English language proficiency, cultural incompatibilities with Western medicine, socioeconomic disadvantage, and immigration-related fear, which discourage them from accessing healthcare (Cervantes & Menjívar, 2020; Li-Geng et al., 2020). While cultural views may cause non-adherence to treatment programs, language limitations frequently result in misconceptions and limited access to care. Lack of insurance and financial difficulties also restrict access to healthcare. Deportation or discrimination related to immigration may deter immigrants from using healthcare systems altogether. It is necessary that these disparities be addressed through culturally responsive, accessible, and patient-centered healthcare strategies that focus on trust building and enhanced communication.

    Unit Lesson

    Introduction

In Unit VII, we examined cash flows and the use of capital budgeting techniques to determine the best project
and opportunity for a firm. In Unit VIII, we will dive into financial analysis and how it assists managers in
    decision-making.

    Making Comparisons

Comparisons between companies can provide helpful clues about the financial health of an organization.
Unfortunately, differences in accounting methods between companies sometimes make it difficult to compare
their financial data. For instance, if a firm uses the Last In, First Out (LIFO) method to value its inventory while
another firm uses the First In, First Out (FIFO) method, then comparisons of their financial data, such as cost
of goods sold or inventory balances and totals, would be misleading.

Managers should not use ratios as an end but rather as a beginning point in analysis. Ratios raise many
questions and point to opportunities for further analysis; however, they rarely answer any questions by
themselves. In addition to ratios, the manager should evaluate industry trends, economic factors,
technological changes, internal changes within the firm, and shifts in consumer trends.

Financial ratios are classified into three distinct groups, as shown in Chapter 14 of the textbook. From the
graphic below, we can identify these categories as the following.

    Quality of Earnings

While profits are the lifeblood of a business, no company can survive for long and accomplish its other goals
unless it is profitable. Continuous losses drain assets from the business and leave the company at the mercy
of its creditors. In assessing the prospects of a company, managers are interested not only in the total amount
of earnings but also in the rate of earnings on sales, total assets, and owners’ equity. Further, managers must
look at the stability and source of those earnings. An inconsistent earnings performance over a period of
years, for instance, is less desirable than a steady level of earnings. A history of increasing earnings is
preferable to a flat earnings record.

A breakdown of sales and earnings by major product lines may be beneficial in evaluating the future
performance of a firm. Publicly owned companies include a supplementary schedule with their financial
statements that shows sales and profits by product line and by geographical area. These schedules assist
managers in forecasting the effect of changes in consumer demand for specific types of products.

Managers often express the opinion that the earnings of one company are higher quality than the earnings of
other similar companies. This concept arises because each company’s management can choose from a
variety of accounting principles and methods, all of which are considered generally acceptable. A company’s
management often is under heavy pressure to report rising earnings, and accounting policies may be tailored
toward this goal. In evaluating the quality of earnings, the manager should consider whether the accounting
principles and methods used will lead to a conservative measurement of earnings or tend to inflate reported
    earnings.

    Company Performance

Comparing financial information for a current period with similar information for prior years provides some
basis for judging whether the condition of the business is improving or worsening. This comparison of data
over time is called horizontal analysis. It expresses the idea of reviewing data for a number of consecutive

periods. It is different from vertical analysis, which refers to the review of the financial information within a
    single accounting period.

In addition to determining whether the situation is improving or becoming worse, horizontal analysis may aid
in making estimates of future prospects. Since changes may reverse their direction at any time, projecting
past trends into future ones always involves a level of risk. A weakness of horizontal analysis is that
comparison with the past does not lead to any basis for evaluation in absolute terms. The fact that net income
was 4% of sales last year and 5% of sales this year indicates improvement. However, if there is evidence that
net income should be 8% of sales, the record for both years is considered unfavorable.
