1. Based on the most urgent problem, what are the priority actions/interventions for this patient?

2. What are some environmental and/or individual factors that could impact the patient’s ability for post-operative recovery once they return home?

3. Draft one question you have regarding the topic/content of the simulation to have answered in class. Please answer the three questions attached will be the patient worked on in ihuman

For patients who have undergone a joint replacement like David Doughlas, having a plan a nursing care plan is important to help care for the patient. According to Bodrogi et al. (2020), the most urgent concern in patients who have undergone a hip arthroplasty involves pain management, prevention of complications, and promoting optional mobility, interventions should be channeled towards addressing these needs. As such, the top-priority intervention for the patient is patient education on pain management, regular diet and mobility. Pain management will involve educating the patient on adequate pain control measures. Education on adequate nutrition is also important as diet plays a significant role in the recovery process.

The environmental/individual factors that could affect the patient’s post-operative recovery once they return home are lack of support and economic burden. The patient reports that he lives alone as his wife is in a nursing home and as such, may lack the support needed to promote his recovery process. In addition, since he may have to do some tasks alone, there may be a risk of falls which may prompt other complications. The other factor is economic burden which may impact the transportation process and further home care. The patient may be economically incapable of hiring a home nurse/aid to help at home which may negatively affect the recovery process.

The question I would want addressed in class is; What risk factors should you assess for during postoperative care for patients who have undergone such a procedure? What are some of the subjective questions to ask when assessing these factors?
