How Nurse Informaticists Interact with other Professionals

In my healthcare organization, nurse informaticists and other technology specialists work to improve the accuracy, improve efficiency, eliminate unnecessary work, and ensure that the data analysis is meaningful in order to help other healthcare providers improve the quality of patient care (Darvish et al., 2014). Technology specialists and nurse informaticists in my organization belong to the IT department where they facilitate data integration, knowledge and information to support nurses, patients, and other healthcare providers during decision-making. Since they mostly spend most of their time in the IT department, the interactions with other healthcare providers are minimal. However, there are open lines where healthcare providers can directly contact the IT specialists in case of any technology hiccup such system breakdown. The main interactions between technology specialists, nurse informaticists, and other healthcare professionals occur electronically or when there is a scheduled physical meeting. This means that interactions are relatively minimal (Mi et al., 2017). However, nurse informaticists, IT specialists and other healthcare professionals in the organization share the organizational vision and understand the role of each other, towards achieving better patient outcomes.

    Strategies to Improve the Interactions

Since technology specialists are located in a different office, and hence there are minimal interactions with other healthcare providers, interactions can be improved by implementing software that can facilitate interactions between healthcare providers and IT specialists. This can promote information sharing and assist team members to interact often even without physical meetings. The interactions can improve collaboration between healthcare professionals with technology specialists and nurse informaticists. The applications should have automated notifications to ensure that the appropriate team members get suitable communications at the appropriate time. In addition, social media platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp can be used to facilitate interactions between technology specialists and other professionals. Through WhatsApp and Facebook groups, information can be shared about the latest technology developments and other professionals get a platform to ask questions and raise their concerns and challenges they might be facing with the technology (Smailhodzic et al., 2016). It is important to encourage different departments, and particularly the technology department to regularly post on the organizational blog page and share updates and news on their activities and latest developments. This will keep all staff members up-to-date and at the same time promote interactions. NURS 6051C Discussion Week 3 – nurse informaticists Essay

Impact of Evolution of Nursing Informatics and New Technologies on Professional Interactions

The continued evolution of nursing informatics and technologies are likely to reduce physical interactions among professionals. For instance, the technologies are likely to reduce physical meetings because information can be communicated electronically. Moreover, nurses and other healthcare providers use computers and information technologies to communicate and document clinical data, which is finally sent to the target audience electronically. This significantly minimizes physical interactions and hence reduces professional interactions (Mi et al., 2017). However, new technologies are likely to improve interactions electronically where professionals can even interact remotely and even discuss important clinical decisions while located in different geographical locations (Ramundo, 2015).

    NURS 6051 C Assignment 1

The term “knowledge worker” was first coined by management consultant and author Peter Drucker in his book,
    The Landmarks of Tomorrow
(1959). Drucker defined knowledge workers as high-level workers who apply theoretical and analytical knowledge, acquired through formal training, to develop products and services. Does this sound familiar? NURS 6051C knowledge worker in Nursing assignment

Nurses are very much knowledge workers. What has changed since Drucker’s time are the ways that knowledge can be acquired. The volume of data that can now be generated and the tools used to access this data have evolved significantly in recent years and helped healthcare professionals (among many others) to assume the role of knowledge worker in new and powerful ways. NURS 6051C knowledge worker in Nursing assignment

In this Assignment, you will consider the evolving role of the nurse leader and how this evolution has led nurse leaders to assume the role of knowledge worker. You will prepare a PowerPoint presentation with an infographic (graphic that visually represents information, data, or knowledge. Infographics are intended to present information quickly and clearly.) to educate others on the role of nurse as knowledge worker.

Reference: Drucker, P. (1959). The landmarks of tomorrow. New York, NY: HarperCollins Publishers.

    To Prepare:

Review the concepts of informatics as presented in the Resources.

Reflect on the role of a nurse leader as a knowledge worker.

Consider how knowledge may be informed by data that is collected/accessed.

    The Assignment:

Explain the concept of a knowledge worker.

Define and explain nursing informatics and highlight the role of a nurse leader as a knowledge worker.

Develop a simple infographic to help explain these concepts.NOTE: For guidance on infographics, including how to create one in PowerPoint, see “How to Make an Infographic in PowerPoint” presented in the Resources.

Your PowerPoint should Include the hypothetical scenario you originally shared in the Discussion Forum. Include your examination of the data that you could use, how the data might be accessed/collected, and what knowledge might be derived from that data. Be sure to incorporate feedback received from your colleagues’ responses. NURS 6051C knowledge worker in Nursing assignment

Make sure to include detailed speaker notes and follow the grading rubric closely, as I will be grading according to the grading rubric.

Tip:  ALWAYS include detailed speaker notes when developing a PowerPoint.  This is VERY important. NURS 6051C knowledge worker in Nursing assignment

// A young woman with Depression

    Case #2

    A young woman with Depression

    SUBJECTIVE

Stefanie is a 32-year-old female from Puerto Rico who presents to your office today with complaints of difficulty sleeping. You learn that Stefanie can go for a few days with minimal sleep (about 3 hours/night), but does not seem to be fatigued the next day. Stefanie explains that after 3 days with minimal sleep, she “crashes” and has a good night’s sleep. She states that sleep will be “alright” for a few days, even a few weeks, and then she will have a similar issue with sleep.

You learn throughout the assessment process that Stefanie has had this problem for years. She noticed that it began in college and thought it was just because of the workload and academic demands. However, she found that it persisted after college. She also notices that she has periods where she will engage in increased amounts of goal-directed activity. She states that things will just “pile up” at work and she gets this burst of energy to “make everything right.” She states that these bursts will last most of the day. She states that these periods show up probably every 2 to 3 weeks. Practicum: Decision Tree

Stefanie also confesses to problems with being “down in the dumps.” She states that when she has her episodes in which she endeavors to “make everything right,” she feels fantastic and on top of the world. However, when these periods of energy end, she reports that she feels “depressed”—but then states: “well, maybe not depressed, but I definitely feel sad and empty.” She also endorses feelings of fatigue and a decreased ability to concentrate when she is feeling sad. She finally tells you: “I have lived with this for so long, I have to admit that it is finally a relief to tell someone how I feel!”

    OBJECTIVE

Stefanie is dressed appropriately to the weather. She has no gait abnormalities. Physical assessment is unremarkable. Gross neurological assessment is within normal limits.

    MENTAL STATUS EXAM

Stefanie is alert and oriented × 4 spheres. Her speech is clear, coherent, goal directed, and spontaneous. Self-reported mood is “sad.” Affect does appear consistent with dysphoria. Eye contact is normal. Speech is clear, coherent, and goal directed. She denies visual or auditory hallucinations. No overt evidence of paranoid or delusional thought processes noted. She denies suicidal or homicidal ideation and is future oriented.

At this point, please discuss any additional diagnostic tests you would perform on Stefanie.
